I found what might be the best/cheapest lunch in town. On Friday I had a cup of chicken enchilada soup at Mi Casita. They have this particular soup on the menu every day, with two or three other soups that change daily. I ate in so I got the chips and salsa. I had a big glass of water. And the 'cup' of soup was really more like a bowl. It sure looked like a bowl. Anyway, the soup was $2.95; with tax it came to $3.26. Where else in town can you get lunch for $3 and some change? (plus tip, of course.)

As the weather turns cooler, I suggest you get over to Mi Casita to try one of their scratch made soups, while they last (they frequently run out of soup at the end of the day.) If you haven't had the chicken enchilada soup, you don't know what you're missing. I suspect there's about one half of a char grilled chicken breast in each serving. It's the perfect soup for a cool autumn day.

(I'm not affiliated with Mi Casita, I just love the soup there. My kids love the quesadillas and the soup. And my wife loves the enchiladas. And the steak tacos are pretty damn good too. And save room for dessert if you go for dinner.)

Man! I was there one day before the ribbon cutting!

Anyway, I stopped in for an early lunch today. My standard first order at any new Mexican restaurant is the two taco dinner, ground beef. So, that's what I had here. Two ground beef tacos with rice and beans. Chips and two salsas arrived before my lunch, along with my huge lemonade. Lunch was delivered to my table before the 6 steak burritos going out the door to one of the members of the crew replacing the water mains on Burlington, even though he ordered first. I guess that's a lot of steak to prepare.

Anyway, I ate the chips with no sauce, but once the tacos arrived I tried a little of each on a chip, to gauge how much I'd need on the tacos. The green was actually sort of cool, very flavorful, almost like a pesto or something, with lots of fresh herbs, or something. I couldn't put my finger on it. It wasn't hot enough for me so I didn't spend a lot of time on it.

I tried the red sauce and it was more my style. Good flavor again, and nice and hot, but still edible. I spooned a bunch of the red onto my first ground beef taco. The ground beef here reminds me of more authentic/less Americanized taco filling. (If you've ever eaten at Rosita's on East McDowell Rd in Phoenix, this food is EXACTLY like that.) Not spicy, but very flavorful, with some bits of potato in there. When topped with the red sauce, the taco was very, VERY good on the fresh corn tortillas.

I have no idea how Mexican restaurants keep the grains of rice so separate, but the rice here did not disappoint. The beans were not completely mashed into a paste but had some nice definition to the whole beans, with a good flavor.

Overall, the meal was $8.84 with the 2 taco dinner and beverage. A good value, and very tasty.

While I was there, they were replacing the baseboard heat along the north wall, so it was a little cold, noisy and messy, but other than that, it was a great introduction to this welcome addition to places I can walk to for lunch.

I was able to finally sample some food from this place over the weekend and quite enjoyed it. While the chicken in my tacos was a bit dry, the food overall was pleasantly tasty. The quesadilla appetizer was also well received by all in my dining party.

I look forward to sampling other items from their menu in the near future. Here's hoping the place manages to stick around.

Went to Mi Casita for lunch today...it was great. The burrito and guacamole were fresh and tasty. Lets all help them out and visit them for lunch or dinner. It is important to support the local eateries.

We have been to Mi Casita twice and were happy with the food both times! My favorite so far was their quesadilla -- delicious. They give you great chips and salsa at the table when you eat in, too. They are clearly still working out some kinks, but I think are doing well for just having opened. They are definitely very eager to please their customers, and I really hope that they do well!

I've been to Mollies a couple of times now, and think it's a very exciting addition to Riverside! They have very good, tasty beers on tap (love the Smithwick's). I can't wait for the full menu, though we liked the fish and chips (great chips by the way, which we ordered alone as a snack during our second visit). I really like the cozy and classy (non-cheezy) pub atmosphere, and the staff are very friendly. I think that it seems like a very kid-friendly place -- we saw two families with kids there during our first visit -- but I am not sure if they have highchairs.

Aside from having no kids menu yet, how kid-friendly is Mollie's? Do they have highchairs? Is it more of a bar than a restaurant? Just wondering before I decide whether or not to take my 14-month old.

[comment edited by admin - off topic] My family has eaten there and the food was quite good. We will be back often and I encourage others who read this site to give it a try.
