Nice interview. I'm glad they aren't going to go for another referendum. It wouldn't pass next year, either.

Hi,

I just wanted to let this forum know that www.rbclarion.com is now open - the web home of the Clarion, RB's student newspaper.

We do try to have our stories reflect the interest of our community. I'd direct your attention to our current story about administrator raises. We follow your dialogue here and had seen questions raised regarding the decision-making process about administrator raises and tried to address them in our story. You might find it of interest.

We have a wealth of referendum-related stories that look at the scope and impact of the failed referendum as well as the bright-spots, coping strategies, and future outlook of the school's finances. More are coming as well.

Please don't hesitate to comment on our stories, submit media or story ideas through our U Report page, or e-mail me (mancoffd@rbhs208.org) or any reporter if you have specific story ideas or questions. We're an independent paper, so we can't guarantee coverage, but we will listen to all ideas.

Additionally, we are available to friend on Facebook (rbhs clarion) or follow on Twitter (@rbhsclarion) if you want.

Anyway, happy reading,

The info in the youtube video is very disturbing. What's going on with it? Any investigations?

Did anyone read the Chicago Tribune yesterday?

Sounds like RB isn't the only school district trying to pass a tax increase. Scroll down to read the comments. You'd think they were written about RB.

On 3/7, students at RB held a student forum in the style of the 3/2 forum at Komarek to debate the pro's and con's of the referendum.

Seniors Elliot Louthen, Kate Walsh, and Paul Landahl spoke for the pro-referendum side and seniors Fitz Robling, Thomas Linehan, and Andrew Brondos spoke for the anti-referendum side.

If you'd like to read what was said and see a 10-minute video clip of the students speaking, you can follow this link from the RB Clarion:
http://rbclarion.com/top-stories/2011/03/11/b-parc-holds-referendum-forum-for-seniors

I thought it was really instructive and interesting to hear the kids frame the issues to one another. I hope it is of interest to you also.

Voters misunderstand? What the voters misunderstood was what the RCA campaigned on 2 years ago. They understood the RCA wanted a revitalized downtown. They understood a top down audit was to be completed with wasteful spending outlined and cut. They understood there would be open and transparent government - a people's government. How ironic the RCA says the people don't understand.

Sacchi's dismissal of the electorate is typical of the condescending attitude of the Gang of Four. He and the other members of the RCA continue to insult their fellow residents at every opportunity. The referendum was perfectly clear. The only people confused in Riverside are the four members of the board who are confused as to what their role is. Let me clarify your role, Trustee Sacchi. You were elected to represent our interests. Too bad the state referendum yesterday didn't allow for the recall of local officials. If it did, I would lead the charge to have you removed from office.

From the Landmark:

Trustee Lonnie Sacchi, a main architect of the plan to dissolve the recreation board, said that most people were probably confused by the question, which he said "was not thoroughly vetted out."

"Most people equate that question with the function of recreation in the village," Sacchi said. "The right question to ask was, 'Do you or do you not want an organized recreation function in the village?' Why should that function be delivered any differently that any other in the village?"

No, Trustee Sacchi. No, no, no, no, no. "Most people" were not confused by the question. "Most people" are much smarter than you give them credit for. "Most people" understood perfectly well what the question was and they voted accordingly.

I find it remarkable that a trustee--elected by the people--can with what I presume was a straight face tell the Land mark that most of the 2704 people who voted "Yes" misunderstood the question. But there you have it--that's what Trustee Sacchi thinks of us.
