CORRECTIONS

In the Sept. 30 story, "District 96 board approves $18 million budget," District 96 Superintendent Jonathan Lamberson was identified as District 96's only full-time administrator. He should have been identified as the only District 96 administrator who has a 12-month contract. The Landmark regrets the confusion.

The Landmark also fails to mention the paid 5 weeks vacation and 12 sick/personal days. I can see that it might be difficult to be both the CFO and the Superintendent w/ that much time off, thus the obvious difficulty in providing an $18 Million budget with line items, per se.

Mike,

The Lamberson contract was on the Board agenda. However, it was discussed in executive session. Although I've questioned the amount of the contract, I don't think discussion in exec session was inappropriate here. Contract negotiations and hiring decisions are not generally considered appropriate for public participation.

I believe the vote to approve the contract was unanimous, although i don't have the link.

Also, is the proposed compensation package under consideration by the Board ever made public BEFORE it is voted on by the Board, or is this a private 'personnel issue' and not something that the public can listen, watch, and possibly comment on?

I would not think it is private since it certainly is disclosed eventually

Catherine,

Board meetings are scheduled for 730, but start immediately after the committee meeting if one is scheduled for that date. In the case of next months meeting, I don't believe there is a committee meeting, so 730 should be the starting time. I don't know what room--I hope they have a big one...

Playground zone sounds like a good idea. It sounds better than the rear of the school; since Hauser kids play there during the end of their school day - that would interfere with Central's kids release.

Martjack - I'm meeting with Dr. Lamberson tomorrow to discuss a playground drop off zone so as to ease congestion in front of the schools on Woodside. And that is something I know about, living right next to the school. It would really help to not have all the cars coming from the North and NorthEast sides of town entering the traffic scrum in front of the schools, would allow them to drop their kids on the playground out of the traffic, and go back home without having to circle around and mix with the morning thru traffic. I've got a drawing for him and it will work. Best of all, it won't require anything more than a couple of portable "ENTER" and "DO NOT ENTER signs and about 8-10 cones that the janitors can put out in the AM when they put out the crosswalk signs. Once school starts, the cones get moved over to block the entry and the playground is secure and usable for PE classes. This simple alternative should relieve much of the congestion out front. I hope it isn't too simple to be considered.
