In the winter, I push a lot of snow. As I shoveled the snow this weekend, I was reminded why I hate the aggregate concrete. It holds ice, especially if it's walked on. It also causes the shovel to catch, causing wrist trauma & shovel handle gut punches. It's expensive, it doesn't last as long, it's hard to shovel, & it holds ice.

Was the look really the driving factor behind this decision? Whatever the rationale was, it doesn't make sense to me. I'll be reminded of this nonsensical rule, & those that voted for it, every time it snows.

2013 cannot come fast enough!

I was recently at an event with known supporters of the "not-fabulous four" and they are
disgusted too!

Transparency is what they wanted…we are getting it loud and clear…voting as a block of one mind!

Have you hugged your Mayor today?

No No. Just put a patches of cement out on the aprons. Heck if it's good enough for our Fire Department, its good enough for astheticism on the residential drive ways. Sacchi should have no issue with that.

That is correct. The new ordinance does not require homeowners to change existing aprons. Only when an apron is replaced does the ordinance require exposed aggregate.

...homeowners who decide or need to replace their driveway aprons

I assume for the latter, "need to replace" means that the aprons needs to be replaced due to degradation / decay and not for non compliance of a municipal standard for driveway aprons.

Under the newly passed ordinance, homeowners who decide or need to replace their driveway aprons will be required to use exposed aggregate. Similarly, whenever the Village does a public works project that requires replacing driveway aprons, it will also have to use exposed aggregate. There is no requirement that homeowners proactively replace exisiting aprons with exposed aggregate.

How does this work exactly? Is an exposed aggregate apron required in order to get a certificate of compliance? This would require homeowners to rip out perfectly good driveways and replace with exposed aggregate concrete in order to sell a home. On the other hand, if the ordinance requires that anyone replacing a driveway apron do so with exposed aggregate concrete, no problem. There just won't be a lot of driveway aprons replaced until summer of 2013 when the weather turns more sane.

Elections do matter.

Know your candidates.

Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

question: How much longer do we have to wait before we kick them out of office?
answer: Too long.
