No, sorry. Back in HS I worked for Majestic Auto parts one summer, back when it was up where the bank parking lot is now. hen it moved to the building where Joe Gaberik is now - but after I was gone. There was a garage - Jack Rada's - in the building behind the arcade where the condos are now. Rada was a wild man - he had a motorcycle with a Ford V-8 60 in it, like the ones Honest Chaley still buids in Chattanooga, I think. I had scars on my legs from riding it and touching the cylinder heads with my calves. Don and Bob Falconer had the garage where Jeff's is now, west of the arts center.

I used to build hot rods and fix up cars in all those places. Used to pump gas and wash cars at Henderson Bros. Pure Oil where Riverside Garage is now, and drove a jeep to start cars and plow driveways for Frank Martin who had the garage at Deleplaine and Burlington. Into the fifties there were three gas stations in town. And of course the legendary Grill-Ette. Sorry if I am repeating myself here... now I'm thinking about old cars and old girlfriends... now I shall have a nice day.

Thatis a nice parking lot. Do you, Don, or anyone else, know anything of the history of the building immediately east of there--a brick building fronting what appears to be a frame Victorian. The frame building has some interesting detailing on it.

Last commercial space on South side Quincy. Next to his office. It's like a quiet little park.

Barr's parking lot on Quincy is an absolute credit to the town

Where is that parking lot, or was that humorous? How can a parking lot be that interesting?

I think you mean Tom Barr. Bob Barr was that "big fish" that Larry Flynt outed.

Well, the buildings on Burlington are down. Hope there are no ambient asbestos fibers. Plantings at the perimeter remain, evergreens in center have trash piled on top of them. I was hoping they could be preserved. I think Bob Barr's parking lot on Quincy is an absolute credit to the town. We should have something like that as long as we are having one.

In round numbers it will be in the $400K area minimum. By that I mean cost to the Village after receiving the $85K from the VC and the grant for part of the demo cost. Our minimum cost $18-20K a space. Too much in this economic climate. We don't charge the chirches fees when they build or remodel, so thay could let people park there in the evening in return. Or?

The Wiaduck Legacy Memorial Parking Lot. Get those shovels moving boys! How much per space did the plan commission charge for parking variances and how much will this cost per space?

It would have been a higher and better use of tax payer $$ to attract a retail development and work out an agreement with St. Mary's for parking.

Does anyone know what exactly is going on now with those properties? What is the nature of the work that has been authorized and what is the time frame for the work?

demo only now?
demo now and make into parking lot now?
demo now and make into parking lot later?

I assume this is all public somewhere.

some bits...

Here is something on this subject made by Riverside First as some background. It notes estimates , but no contract to go forward w/ the work.

http://www.riversideinfo.org/forum/topic/what-would-rp-do-about-the-budget/page/2#post-8416

here is some more on this subject from the V site,

and this from the mar 3 2009 meeting (maybe this is why the cat is sitting the driveway?)

This is precisely the kind of step that should await the seating of the new board. If someone filed for a TRO on Monday morning it would surely stop things for 24 hours.
