Here's a good one. "Repo 105 is about to enter the lexicon of shameful accounting and financial techniques." Don't know what it is? Read this -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8563604.stm

What this means to me as thatsome lawyer somewhere will approve anything, and it's getting a lot harder to trust the numbers that banksand public companies present.

China's demand for oil jumped by an "astonishing" 28% in January compared with the same month a year earlier, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says.
The body added that demand for oil in 2010 would be underpinned by rising demand from emerging markets, with half of all growth coming from Asia.
But the IEA predicted demand in developed countries would fall by 0.3%.
The IEA has increased its global oil demand forecast for 2010 by 1.8% to 86.6 million barrels a day.
Oil prices are currently at their highest point for two months, with US light, sweet crude above $82 a barrel and Brent crude more than $80 a barrel.
The IEA said the high price level was due to "heightening of geopolitical tensions affecting some producing countries", but that this had been balanced by "ample physical oil supplies".
Crude oil production by countries in the oil producers' cartel Opec rose to a 14-month high of 29.2 million barrels a day in February.
During February, Iraq pumped an extra 115,000 barrels a day.
Opec is due to meet on 17 March and the IEA expects it will maintain its current production targets.

Get used to it.

Whole departments are being cut at Triton, and they may have to close their doors after the 2011 school year.

It makes what has been going on at D96 and D208 all that more amazing. Get with it and stop the worthless spending and figure out how to get by with less. No more taxes, no more salary increases. Nancy Jensen, can you hear us?

Economy 'Far too Close' to Double Dip: Roubini
CNBC.com | March 10, 2010 | 05:07 AM EST
Poor economic data in the US coupled with Europe's debt crisis are contributing to an increase of the risk of the US economy going through a double-dip recession, Nouriel Roubini, who predicted the 2007 financial crisis, wrote in a research paper.

At best, the US economy is headed for a U-shaped recovery this year, Roubini said. That has been his prediction in recent months.

Can't get the link to work so here is the rest:

The US faces challenges in the second half, especially as fiscal stimulus measures fade, and "appears far too close to the tipping point of a double-dip recession," he said.

The euro zone is also facing an increased risk of a double-dip fall, because of its ongoing debt crisis, he wrote.

Even if the euro zone does not suffer a double dip, growth in demand will be even more limited and this will hurt the United States' potential for export growth, according to Roubini's paper.

The Roubini Global Economics benchmark scenario puts the risk of a double dip at 20 percent, while a slow, protracted, U-shaped recovery is given the highest probability of 60 percent.

But since the end of February new macroeconomic data from the US have come out and "they have been almost uniformly poor, if not outright awful," Roubini wrote.

Consumer confidence has "tanked", new home sales are "collapsing," existing home sales are also falling sharply, as is construction activity, while initial jobless claims remain "stubbornly high" above the 400,000 mark, he said.

Despite the fact that the growth in gross domestic product (GDP) was revised upwards to an annual rate of 5.9 percent in the fourth quarter, most of it, around 3.9 percent, was due to inventories, Roubini noted.

Final sales grew at a 1.9 percent rate in the fourth quarter, while in the third quarter that growth was only at a rate of 1.7 percent, he said.

"So, at the time of maximum policy stimulus (second-half of 2009), final sales were growing only at a pathetic 1.8 percent average rate," Roubini explained.

From the Chicago Tribune: www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-x-w-0224-wheaton-schools-20100226,0,6129291.story

The upcoming deficit looms larger and personnel, currently numbering 1,064, will bear the brunt of the cuts. That is inevitable, Baker said, because salaries and benefits comprise $119 million, or 79 percent, of the district's operating budget, which excludes debt service. Exactly how many teachers might be laid off is unknown because there may be some attrition.

This just in...

--------------------
News Alert: January home sales fall 7.2 percent
10:30 AM EST Friday, February 26, 2010
--------------------

Sales of previously occupied homes took a large drop for the second straight month in January, falling to the lowest level since summer. It was another sign the housing market's recovery is faltering.

The National Association of Realtors said sales fell 7.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.05 million from a downwardly revised pace of 5.44 million in December.

The results, the weakest since June, were far worse than forecast. Economists expected a slight increase to a rate of 5.5 million.
