Another business closing

Sad to say, The Cork will be closing after this weekend. So, if--like me--you enjoy their selection of interesting wine, unusual beers and hard-to-ind liquor, get down there fast before it's all gone. - -I think I got the last bottle of Pusser's Navy Rum, though.

It's a shame to see them go. Not only were they a high-quality liquor store, they were very generous to the community. Many a Riverside charity has been the recipient of free beer and wine from the Cork for thie functions. The only ray of hope is that they don't want to go, and do hope to come back.

Any time a small business closes, it is like a death in the family. I'm very sorry for our loss. Hopefully, they will be able to come back---and without too much time passing. I'll miss them.

I was told by Issa, from the Cork, that the old landlord had passed away and that his son had insisted on a much higher lease price. Issa also said he'd like to come back to riverside in the future. Time will tell.

That's too bad -- in the short time we've lived in Riverside, we liked going to the Cork for their unique selection. Maybe they could consider reopening somewhere in the CBD! It'd be a pretty great location for them, I'd hope, as I'd personally love to have some place like the Cork in walking distance!

Looks like they may be moving to Crestwood, though...

Way to drum out business. To the landlord: Good luck, in this economy, raising the rent. What's better? To have an empty store front and still having to pay property taxes or a lower lease which would pay or at least mostly pay your taxes.

What a loss for Riverside. This was a viable business which collected a fair amount of sales tax and also donated to our local organizations. What a disappointment.

My thoughts are, the new landlord : 1) is an inept businessman, 2)is rich and needs a tax write off, or 3) has some plans of his own for the spdace and wanted the Cork gone. My bet is on #3

For those who used the Cork as a fine micro brew beer outlet, check out the little liquor store in downtown Brookfield - Leo's Self Service - NE side of the 8 corners. Really great selection of micro stuff (2 Bros, 3 Floyds, Bells - lots of uber hoppy stuff). The guy in there knows his stuff as well.

There were a bunch of trucks and bunch of guys taking everything out of The Cork last night around 11:30. The windows are papered over today. Sorry to see Issa and The Cork go. I liked having them in town.

Some vandalism on the windows this morning. Seems out of place for Riverside.
