Always a wonderful time at The Village Board Meetings. It's so good they have cancelled Monday Night Football. Come to think of it, this is Monday night football, where the legitimate aspirations of those that bother to attend are ignored or side stepped.

I do not see an agenda item for 'public comment'. Can anyone clarify for me when the public comment time comes in the meeting tonight?

I recall an item from the newspapers and-or in this forum saying that public comments will be at the start of the Board meetings, but I do not see it slotted in the agenda copied above.

    .
EDIT1 - I do see the agenda item now

VII. Presentation of Petitions, Communications, and Citizen Requests

but it is at the back of the meeting, unlike what I thought.

EDIT2 - here is the item; it seems that the public comment change was only proposed

It's VII Mike, toward the bottom. They haven't passed the new format yet. So tonight it is after they give away the money.

Please let those of us who are not there know what happened.

Why is it that "Real Estate Acquisitions" always go into Executive [closed] session? Why should they be confidential?

How do they acquire real estate if they don't have any money? The more you see the manipulation of issues the more it looks like legal action will be necessary - which is a real shame, because we spend far too much on lawyers already. It is obvious that Trustee Shields thinks that getting the TIF is worth whatever we have to pay for it - even if we don't want it. I wish they had spent all this money 50/50 - half toward the underfunded pensions and half for the Forestry department. I'll bet people would be amazed what Mike Collins could achieve in a year if they gave him money to work with, some good helpers, some volunteer assistance and relief from all the paperwork he has to do. (And I admit that includes answering guys like me that sometimes make him defend his actions.)

Yes, this is the second time I have run across reference to such discussions, so I am sure there are more. Mr Wiaduck himself said months ago that owners on Burlington had approached the village to acquire their real estate. So WHERE would such money come from?

Yes, I am sure more people would be glad to volunteer if they didn't feel their tax dollars were being wasted. I was looking at the website of Homer Glen, a town committed to the coexistence of the built and the natural environment. The folks in those parts were so freaked out about development they zoned all the farm land and made their own town. Anyway, their website has a spot for volunteers.

Why would any one approach his or her village to buy their property?
Don't most people just call an agent?
Why does the village feel an obligation to purchase homes of people that approach them? I don't get it.

Good question. Ask Wiaduck. He said this at the large meeting on the TIF that occured some time ago, in answering a question after I asked him whether they would swear off the use of eminent domain.

Well if anyone knows about Real Estate in Riverside it's Mrs. Wiaduck. Better to ask her.
