Also, let's not get in a cul de sac here. The spending is not all about 1 item.

I was referring to items 6,7. If you're going to parse a sentence you have to be willing to consider every phrase.

That was not the information I was referring to. My point is an extraordinary amount of spending is going on Monday night, whether it was approved before the economy collapsed or not.

No doubt the circumstances of the VM will be discussed openly at the meeting so that we all may know what is going on and why and not have to rely on rumor and gossip. I hope you're right and I'm wrong because, well, that would be scandalous, you are correct.

    Catherine -

Plenty of people get severance even though they resign. I worked at one company where if you had been with the company for 2 years and resigned you were given 4 weeks of severance. They preferred to have people leave on a good note and to want to allow the employee to be able to get time off in between jobs or when they went back to school. Worked out real well as former employees became some of their best clients.

It is all what you negotiate when you get hired. Some people get signing bonuses or might get more than the normal amount of vacation. She may have clause that provides severance after a certain amount of time.

Hm, you sure have had some interesting work experiences HR. Folks with cars on the company dime (wasn't that you?), severance packages for quitting. Shucks. I thought only very senior execs got golden parachutes for quitting.

I have never had a company car. I did however get the severance package when I resigned after 7 years. I helped them various times over the next year expecting no fee. I have also steered them business over the years. Worked out well for all.

Yes, that would be one classy way to do it.

But the thing here is they are amending the contract, so that was not the deal.

Well, let's say that the VM's contract gives her $60K as a bonus whether she quits or was not renewed, fired, whatever. That's $6.66 for every man, woman and child (roughly) in the village. Now what changes will be made to that? Up or down? I can't say because at 5:00 PM when the Library closed the packet was not there.

    Really? That's incredible!

There's a different agenda attached to the package. Nothing about accepting notice.

There's a resolution opposing the demolition of the Arcade.

There's a packet there now, online. I don't see anything in there supporting the amendment of severance benefits, but it is 256 pp. Maybe it's buried in there.
