I went through it page by page and saw nothing in regard to Ms. Rush.

spatny said, in a spirit of scrounging for money, in the 'How to save the Arcade' thread--

It seems to me it would be more worthwhile to have the Arcade up and functioning than the Burlington properties a parking lot

But it looks like this won't happen and there continues to be more spending.

Today I saw the big demolition trucks and crew on Burlington starting the demo process of the burlington properties for a parking lot. Considering the budget deficit that we are in, it would have been nice to allow this expenditure to be on hold until there was a comprehensive review of all budget items. Then it could have been properly prioritized.

In the meantime, could not it have been possible for the Village to work something out using the Post Office slots, 1st Nat'l slots, Riv Foods slots, even St Mary's slots, in the low probability event of out the door parking needs at the Chew Chew? Since that might be at off hours for the concerns just listed, there seems to be enough parking. Or is this money all spent already, and cannot reverse its expenditure?

Right to the bitter end. Of course it might have been helpful to leave those homes sitting there intact if the possibility of doing something else with that property could have been worked out. There is plenty of parking there now, especially in the evening Now we will have disturbed ground and have to proceed with some solution that will cost more money, and no doubt our vaunted engineers will have some fiscal surprises for us. They are just making the mountain higher and harder to climb.

Yes, it looks as if they are knocking it down today or Monday. I am not comfortable that asbestos has been abated. I hope they are not knocking down any trees. Bob Barr has the best looking parking lot for 50 miles.

Sad waste. If they sold those, we could help with the Arcade. St. Mary's parking lot sits empty virtually every night of the week.

It's still there as of close of business Friday. It would be unusual symbolism if it comes down Monday. A big Caterpillar is sitting there; don't know if it's ours.

This is precisely the kind of step that should await the seating of the new board. If someone filed for a TRO on Monday morning it would surely stop things for 24 hours.

Does anyone know what exactly is going on now with those properties? What is the nature of the work that has been authorized and what is the time frame for the work?

    demo only now?
demo now and make into parking lot now?
demo now and make into parking lot later?

I assume this is all public somewhere.

    some bits...

Here is something on this subject made by Riverside First as some background. It notes estimates , but no contract to go forward w/ the work.

here is some more on this subject from the V site,

and this from the mar 3 2009 meeting (maybe this is why the cat is sitting the driveway?)

    2. A Resolution authorizing the Village Manager to execute a contract with M&R Demolition, Inc. for the demolition of residential structures located at 61 and 63 East Burlington Street for an amount not to exceed $40,450.00

The Wiaduck Legacy Memorial Parking Lot. Get those shovels moving boys! How much per space did the plan commission charge for parking variances and how much will this cost per space?

It would have been a higher and better use of tax payer $$ to attract a retail development and work out an agreement with St. Mary's for parking.

In round numbers it will be in the $400K area minimum. By that I mean cost to the Village after receiving the $85K from the VC and the grant for part of the demo cost. Our minimum cost $18-20K a space. Too much in this economic climate. We don't charge the chirches fees when they build or remodel, so thay could let people park there in the evening in return. Or?

Well, the buildings on Burlington are down. Hope there are no ambient asbestos fibers. Plantings at the perimeter remain, evergreens in center have trash piled on top of them. I was hoping they could be preserved. I think Bob Barr's parking lot on Quincy is an absolute credit to the town. We should have something like that as long as we are having one.
