    Great Volunteering Opportunity this Sunday - Bicyclists coming through Riverside!

    The Active Transportation Alliance is putting on their annual scenic bike ride through Chicago's neighborhoods - the Boulevard Lakefront Tour - this Sunday August 29. This year they are venturing out into the Western Suburbs, and have a rest stop location at the beautiful Guthrie Park in Riverside. Please pass along the information below to anyone who might be interested in volunteering on Sunday.

    Riverside Rest Stop Volunteers:
    • Check in at the Riverside - Guthrie Park Rest Stop area
    • Check in by 7:45 a.m. This rest stop will be open from 8:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

    Rest/Water Stop Volunteers
    Job Summary: Be the most popular person on the ride! Assist setting up and serving fruit, snacks and water to hungry, thirsty riders.

    Job Details:
    • Arrive at your assigned rest stop on time to assist with set-up or relieve the first shift.
    • Assist with unloading supply trucks and rest stop set-up.
    • Use plastic gloves when handling food.
    • Be aware of the locations of bike repair, first aid and reunion area.
    • Maintain tidy trash/recycling areas. Change bags if needed.
    • Cheer on the riders when they come through the rest stop.
    • Help maintain smooth traffic flow by directing participants through the rest stop.
    • If a rider is having mechanical problems, direct them to one of the mechanic stations. If a rider has an accident, please reference the Emergency sheet for details on handling injuries.
    • Help pack/load remaining water and snacks.
    • Please fill out complete Incident Reports for any crashes, injuries or lost children. Make sure to return all incident reports to your manager.
    • Also, lunch will only be distributed at the festival location – UIC Campus, intersection of Taylor and Morgan. So please bring snacks or a lunch if you do not intend on going to the festival.

    Tom,
    Perhaps this event came together too quickly to get the word out, but the Chamber was disappointed to hear about it, and last weeks bike event, for the first time at the August Chamber meeting. Is there someone the Chamber can keep in touch with to keep informed on these events?
