If not bocceball, what about dodgeball?

It seems that dodgeball is being played at Village Hall. Shevitz was reacting to the post-budget hits in the papers end of year.

I like the idea of trying to do something positive for the community *as a whole* as was suggested in earlier posts in this thread - I think by TomJacobs. So 'less dodgeball and more bocceball'.

Sorry. I meant the game of dodgeball as it is meant to be played. with a playground ball. It didn't ever occur to me about the political game as it is currently being played by not only the RCA, but the president of the United States. my bad.

After reading Mark Shevitz’s letter in the Landmark, I wonder if this what the RCA supporters voted for? A Trustee who feels it’s ok to slam fellow trustees and local citizens because they are asking questions? Is Shevitz speaking for the entire RCA party here? Are the views he expressed held by Gorman, Reynolds and Sacchi as well?

I guess it’s easier to insult fellow Trustees in the press than it is to make any meaningful changes.

I was rereading Shevitz's attack on Ben Sells and Jean Sussman and was struck by this quote:

When pressed further, she [Jean] sheepishly mentioned a tax increase and cutting a police officer.

I can't imagine him using a word like "sheepishly" with regard to a man. Is it just me or does that not smack of sexism? What does he mean by "press?" Since when does one trustee get to "press" another trustee?

Not to mention his quote is totally untrue. Jean, in fact, answered him with clarity and precision. Watch it for yourselves. She published an article before the vote detailing her objections. The RCA just refused to listen.

We seem to have a pattern. Katy Rush is maligned and effectively run out of town. Gorman publicly ridicules Laure Kosey, our only female department head, and now it looks like he is attempting to have her position eliminated. Jean, our only female Trustee, is consistently ignored and shushed during meetings, and now Shevitz demeans her in the Landmark newspaper as "sheepish."

Kelly, I couldn't agree with you more. I have a distinct feeling that these men have a difficult time dealing with women. Just another insight into the core of these RCA individuals. I feel at a loss as to what to do. I am sad for this town and where we are heading. We moved in here hoping we would be somewhat removed and quite frankly away from the questionable politics of Chicago. Mr Shevitz says he is not being political but yet they continue with their website. I understood the need for the site when they were actively campaigning but now....What is the purpose???? My only hope is that there will be a groundswell of citizens that see what the RCA has done to turn this village into an embarassment.

Actually KRush was shopping her resume prior to the election, and was not fired. She applied for and quit for a job that paid more.

As she had a perfect right to do. That's the facts and you can't change it.

Over the last year I have attended Board Meetings where Trustees Sells and Sussman have spoken long if not eloquently of their opinion. And I know that there will be at least two and possibly three strong female candidates running for the next election.

It's interesting that when shopping in Riverside I hear so many people say they like what has happened and the direction things are taking. Maybe you need to broaden your circle. Certainly the winners of the last election did not create the problems we face. They are coping with the results of what was created over many years.

I posted this elsewhere, but here's an example of what they are trying to avoid:

    City announces 20 layoffs
    By Naperville Sun editors on January 8, 2009 6:32 PM | Permalink | Comments (32) | TrackBacks (0)
In an attempt to help close the $11 million budget deficit, the city of Naperville laid off 20 employees and eliminated 23 vacant positions Thursday. The city would not reveal specifically what positions were eliminated, but did say that the police and fire department were included in the cuts.

The city said the cuts would comprise 5 percent of its workforce and would save $3 million for the year.

Wouldn't it be nice to have some of that money that was spent over the last 4-5 years in our coffers? Well that's gone, so this Board has to do the best it can. Those that were previously elected in uncontested election or lost in the last one really ought to consider joining what is known as "The Loyal Opposition" in the UK. Thump for your party, shout out your views, advocate your solutions. And sign your name. I mean, you are proud to stickup for what you believe, right? So let us know who you are.

Please. The RCA made Katy Rush a central focus of their campaign. Do you forget the fliers with the car wash pictures? There is no way she could have worked for a group that slung mud at her like the RCA did, and there was no indication that the RCA wanted to continue the relationship. You are correct in that she was not fired, but do you really think that staying on was an option?

Ms. Rush was an able administrator while here. My differences were philosophical. She applied for the Woodridge position in February, months before the April election. She was looking to move on and did so, with a very generous severance package. Nobody fired her and she could have stayed. She got substantially more money and perhaps a job with more room for advancement, although I don't know what their financial situation is out there. Any Village Manager would have lined up any of their "shovel ready" projects for the Stimulus money- that wouldn't take a rocket scientist to conceive. All around us villages have been getting road contracts done, and we may be getting some help with the Ridgewood paving next year. Mr. Koch has diligently prepared and pursued all of these projects. I hope it works.
