Car Jacking Investigation
On Monday December 29th, 2008 at 1:36 AM the Riverside Police Department was contacted by a 911 caller reporting that they were just involved in a vehicle hijacking/car jacking on Forest Avenue and First Avenue.
According to the victim he and another person in the vehicle were on Forest Avenue approaching First Avenue when a light colored Mercury Grand Marquis, which was travelling slowly in front of them stopped in the left turn lane in front of the victim's car. A male black passenger exited the Mercury and approached the victim's car and produced a black semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victim and the passenger. The offender then demanded that they get out of the car which they did.
The offender then took the victims car and both vehicles then fled northbound on First Avenue from Forest Avenue. Responding units from other towns checked the area but were unable to locate the offenders. Both victims were not injured during the car jacking.
At 2:35 AM the Riverside Police Department was contacted by the Downers Grove Police Department who advised that the victim's vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident in their town. The Downers Grove Police Department recovered the victim's vehicle and the offending vehicle, but both offenders were able to flee the scene.
Both vehicles were towed to the Riverside Police Department and a Riverside Police Department Evidence Technician processed both vehicles and was able to recover evidence. The investigation is still on going at this time.
