It looks as though the bottoms of the awnings are about a foot above the top of the glass. What use are they at that height? Must be just another decor touch. Hopefully this idea won't be adopted for all the stores in the CBD. I seem to remember something about using awnings and planters to "unify" the appearance of the CBD being discussed at one of the workshops. Perhaps if the awnings at the VC had been placed about 24"-30" lower so they actually shaded the top of the glass and provided some protection on the south and west facades they might have been justified, but as they are now they are just hung on the facade to give it "texture." I wonder what is next?

I try to avoid that corner so I won't have to look, but I can tell you I nearly broke my neck trying to walk on their special aggregate in the ice storm last Saturday night. It was by far slippier than any other surface between the train and home.

What happened to the normal sidewalks they were supposed to put in to avoid the checkerboard look in the CBD?
