Peraica said his main platform for the next term was reducing the sales tax.
“The big issue will continue to be the sales tax,” Peraica said. “When I started the repeal attempt in July 2008, I couldn’t get in on the floor, and after four tries, I got half of the sales tax repealed. I want to repeal the other half — it’s unnecessary.”
Peraica also said there needs to be a focus on expenditures.
“We have to focus on the three largest areas of expenditure-payroll, pensions, and benefits,” Peraica said. “We have to change the benefits and reconsider Cedilla health insurance plans. We also have to look at cost of living adjustments — the average unionized employee gets about two months off a year, paid. That can’t be afforded much longer.”
Bill Russ of Brookfield is also running on the Dem side:
Russ also said he wants to improve the “neglected” Cook County Forest Preserve District.
“Evasive plants are killing the ecosystem,” Russ said. “I think we should make the Forest Preserve District a separate body. Seven nonpartisan people can run as trustees and pick a president. They can do things to make the forest preserve better for generations to come. I want to take the politics out of the forest preserve.”
All good ideas, but I doubt they appeal to "Dollar Bill" Beavers and his ilk.
