Investigating a rear drop off makes alot of sense. I would rather see them spend money (if they need to) on improving that ballpark area in the back or by planting more trees in the front.
Rear parking works at St. Mary's and the lot has similar configuration.
If parking for teachers becomes a space issue, let me suggest a petition to the Village to make a special permit parking for teachers only on the street in front of the building from 7a-9a. This would give teachers an alternative, open up space in the rear and deter parents from using the front for drop off.
This is a great idea and can save money that should be spent elsewhere.

That is approximately what I said. Of course, this committee probably only likes the ideas that it comes up with, but perhaps if they hear it from more people???

Megadittos to the use of the rear lot for pickup and drop-off. Someone elsewhere has made this point:
Elgin is the second largest school district in Illinois, next to Chicago. For this, their Superintendent receives less in salary than our Elementary and Junior High school Superintendent, Jon Lamberson---and that's even before the Elgin Superintendent gave back his contractual pay raise.
The Elgin Superintendent has a budget of $427 Million (versus our D96 budget of less than $20 Million) and has the responsibility of educating 41,000 students from PreK through Senior Year of High School, versus D96 going from K- through 8th grade for about 1,500 students.

Why not ease the congestion at Central/Hauser drop off the same way that Ames and Blythe do? I believe police, teachers and parents enforce the "no standing or parking" rules in front of the schools. This prevents cars from blocking the area. If parents have to drop off their children (e.g. on their way to work), they can drop off on the one side of the street that is permitted.

At what time is the meeting at Hauser on August 18, and in exactly what large room?

Martjack - I'm meeting with Dr. Lamberson tomorrow to discuss a playground drop off zone so as to ease congestion in front of the schools on Woodside. And that is something I know about, living right next to the school. It would really help to not have all the cars coming from the North and NorthEast sides of town entering the traffic scrum in front of the schools, would allow them to drop their kids on the playground out of the traffic, and go back home without having to circle around and mix with the morning thru traffic. I've got a drawing for him and it will work. Best of all, it won't require anything more than a couple of portable "ENTER" and "DO NOT ENTER signs and about 8-10 cones that the janitors can put out in the AM when they put out the crosswalk signs. Once school starts, the cones get moved over to block the entry and the playground is secure and usable for PE classes. This simple alternative should relieve much of the congestion out front. I hope it isn't too simple to be considered.

Playground zone sounds like a good idea. It sounds better than the rear of the school; since Hauser kids play there during the end of their school day - that would interfere with Central's kids release.
