Despite the will of the residents of Riverside, the Village Board has moved ahead with its plan to dissolve the board. This action by some of the trustees demonstrates their complete disdain for the people they supposedly represent. The RCA was elected on a platform of transparency and open government. Read their platform online, read some of their letters to the Landmark before they were elected. Their actions are completely inconsistent with what they promised during their campaign. The RCA candidates decried the behavior of the previous board. At least the previous board listened to the residents, the TIF was stopped as a result of the referendum. There is no justification for what they are planning to do to Recreation. I am disgusted.

Did you sign the petition?
Gorman, Shevitz, Reynolds and Sacchi think you're stupid, misguided or easily led.
Did you help collect signatures?
Gorman, Shevitz, Reynolds and Sacchi think you're a bully or a liar.
Did you have the temerity to stand up last night and speak?
Gorman, Shevitz, Reynolds and Sacchi didn't care about your opinion and, in some cases, screamed at you.
The behaviour of Gorman, Shevitz, Reynolds and Sacchi at last nights Board meeting was appalling. They refused to listen to the citizens, they insulted the members of the current Parks and Rec Board, they impugned the integrity of those who collected signatures and they suggested that the petition was invalid because--in their view--the people who signed it were ignorant or misled.
Gorman, Shevitz, Reynolds and Sacchi have no interest in what you have to say unless it comports with their own narrow view and advances their own narrow interests. Three years ago, they trumpeted the anti-TIF referendum as a shining example of pure democracy. Two years ago, they promised open and responsive government that would take into account the will of the people. Last night, they proved they are a narrow-minded, mean-spirited bloc of idealogues who have neither the desire nor the ability to live up to their campaign promises, and whose only goal is to implement their policies and agendas regardless of the wishes of the people.

Last night Trustee Sacchi reasoned that saving money and more efficient governing was behind the RCA's quest to dissolve the Recreation Board and replace it with an advisory commisssion. While its been shown the saving money aspect is fictitious, I got to hand it to Lonnie for staying on topic even when it's a wheel barrow of BS. The efficient governance must be a point of veiw difference. My experience in being on and dealing with commissions is that it ADDS layers of government and therefore adds time/money to the decision making process. Finally, I found it disheartening that when Trustee Reynolds made reference to the Board of Trustees he only included, Mr Shevitz,Mr Goreman,Mr Sacchi, and himself ( three distinct times during one of his comments). To me this reveals how he percieves the BOT, not as a group of seven but as a block of four. Us vs Them. Divisive politics at its worst.I'm sick to death of it on the national level and really don't think its in the best interest's of riverside to have it here at the local level.

Is there anything left to say? I have never seen such arrogance. Not even Blago can muster up this kind of smugness!
Ignore the people, slander the people, yell at the people, accuse the people, but the block of four, is clearly are not representing the people.
Remarkable, that a high school Eagle Scout has enough composure to suggest that they honor the office with integrity!
Shamefully, the RCA has lived up to their reputation...masters of manipulation!
Shevitz' power point was desperate and comical!Remember this at election time and at the next Olmsted Society Fundraiser/Housewalk.
And a special note to Trustee Sacchi: after you finished screaming at that women who had the courage to defy you the "Grand Pooba" you asked/screamed (at her) if she knew what was going to happen next...neither do you!
But I am willing to predict the RCA has cooked their own goose.

Why would you want to remember this nonsense when you are out enjoying a Housewalk???
An Olmsted Society Housewalk showcases what is "GOOD" about Riverside...not the deplorable political shenanigans that go on the rest of the year.

Wow, another flashback:
"So if you want a real change in the direction of the village – one for the better, with a Village Board who listens to residents and governs accordingly, we ask you to vote for Gorman, Reynolds, Sacchi and Shevitz – the Riverside Community Alliance."

I was not at the meeting and I have not yet succeeded in getting a handle on this issue, but reading these descriptions makes me wonder whether the RCA bloc is so overwhelmed by the Village's financial challenges that only by polarizing issues can they see their way forward. Maybe a kind of reverse psychology?
