VILLAGE OF RIVERSIDE
LONG TERM FINANCIAL SECURITY PLAN COMMITTEE
DRAFT COMMITTEE REPORT
OF
ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE COMMITTEE'S
REVIEW AT ITS AUGUST 21, 2007 MEETING
Prepared by Virchow, Krause & Company, LLP
August 17, 2007
Among the gems contained in this report is the listing of our Village management as a "strength", and the discussion of possible strategies such as the elimination of the cooperative tree program (for a saving of $5,000.!), the lengthening of the tree pruning cycle to 6 years for a saving of $10,000., and the elimination of the Village Forester position for a saving of $60,000. (Do these fools know how hard Mike Collins works to keep our Village looking as good as it does?) So there's a way to save $75,000 but of course our most precious asset, our landscape, pays the price. At the same time, we paid over $100,000 to the TIF consultants, and propose to spend another $84,000 of Village funds toward the awful plan for paving perfectly good streets with bricks and whittling down Centennial Park. How about if we convert the Village Manager position to part time, eliminate the hiring of consulants like the guys that slapped this together for $10,000 plus and the "Lighting Consultant" they want to hire for Centennial Park, and start using some common sense. As long as this Board is running things this Village is going to be in real trouble.
