As reported in the Landmark http://rblandmark.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=1&ArticleID=8486 , the Illinois Department of Transportation is going to install left turn signals on eastbound Ridgewood Road and westbound Forest Avenue at First Avenue this spring. This will greatly improve safety at this intersection.
This improvement is thanks to the hard work of Riverside Police Sgt. Bill Gutschick, Riverside Public Works Director Ed Bailey, and Riverside Fire Department Capt. Matt Buckley who have been working through a traffic committee consisting of RBHS officials, representatives from Brookfield, the Zoo, and members of a concerned parents steering committee to find ways to improve traffic and pedestrian safety at this intersection. Riverside Village Manager Peter Scalera has also been very involved in this project and in encouraging future improvements to the intersection.
Illinois State Representative Michael Zalewski was instrumental in bringing IDOT's attention to this matter and is working to facilitate the work on a timely basis. It likely would not have happened without his input.
Thank you to all of these individuals and groups for their efforts in making our Village a safer place.
