Flood Control Systems?

After flooding from sewer backup twice in the past month (really badly last week, of course), my husband and I are now trying to decide between two companies, Xpert flood control, and Parks' flood control, to install a flood control system to (hopefully) keep sewer water out of our basement. Both claim to have installed many systems in Riverside. Has anyone used either of these companies? If so, I'd greatly appreciate your feedback about your experiences with them.

    thanks!

I'm also looking at a "system" for my basement and was also looking at Xpert (plus others). Both Xpert and Park receive high marks per Angies list. Curious as to what solution (overhead, backflow value, other) they would be proposing for your situation.

After a lot of research, we found that Xpert and Parks had by far the best reviews for companies that specialize in installing flood control systems, and both of them recommended we install a sewer cutoff valve system (http://www.floodexperts.com/backup-system/), (http://www.parksplumbingandsewer.com/floodcontrol/index.htm) rather than an overhead sewer. Their two systems are quite similar, with the exception of a few mechanical differences, which may or may not be all that important. Let me know if you would like to swap notes!

Although it sounds like you are further along in the process, I would like to trade notes.

Can either of you give me a sense for the cost of the system they are proposing?

We had X-Pert install a flood control system about 10 years ago; so far, knock on wood, not a SINGLE problem and NO flooding, NO loss of anything! I say give them a chance!

Thanks for more feedback about Xpert, "dontknowmuch" -- good to hear! The quotes we have received have ranged in the ballpark of $8,000 - $10,000, for complete electrical work and system installation. Overhead sewers could also be a good solution (or better, depending on who you ask), but would be more expensive and require (in our case at least) breaking through our foundation, etc.

I ran into Art from Riverside plumbing today and quiried him about this question. He stated that while good, a sewer cutoff valve will not completely seal 100% of the time. He said overhead sewers with ejector lift pits to be the foolproof system.

In the old days, before the curbs were installed, people would let leaves or a piece of something cover the street drains so that the water would sit on the streets and filter slowly into the sewer system at a pace that it could handle. That is still a cost-effective way to deal with torrential rains.
