I am very surprised by the negativity and lack of confidence in RB. Do you have friends in other school districts? Have you discussed problems they face? We do not live in a utopia here - as much as many think we should. The problems of the world around us are just as likely (and prevalent) to occur here as anywhere. Talking to friends in Hinsdale, Libertyville, New Lenox - drugs, violence/gangs, underage sexual activity are all common occurences in every area. I would rather live in a small, tight knit community that communicates and knows at least SOME of what goes on than a large District where everyone assumes it's all OK - or doesn't care.
We're the laughingstock of the western burbs? Really? My friends in Oak Park don't think so. Every community has warts, some big and some small...right now I like the looks of where we are at and where we seem to be moving. Change takes time and adjustment - but it also takes involvement, attention and volunteerism. As long as parents work at being part of the solution, we have a good chance to raise the generation of the future the right way.
