Stay Gold, Pony Boy. Stay Gold.
--The Outsiders
The theme of innocence is symbolized in the Robert Frost poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay," which Ponyboy reads to Johnny at the Windrixville church, beginning with the line "Nature's first green is gold" and ending with the line "Nothing gold can stay." As Johnny dies, he tells Ponyboy to "stay gold," urging Ponyboy to hold on to his innocence despite the harsh conditions of his world.

Ponyboy is Riverside. The harsh conditions of the world is a slight downward tic in the eav of the cbd. We can stay gold with spirit, creativity and eyes kept focused on what is important.

Nothing Gold Can Stay
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
-- Robert Frost
