Ms. Rush is no doubty an able administrator, and would do well in some other place, but she has hasn't got a clue as to what Riverside is really all about, and she has led the Borad of Trustees and many of their sycophantic appointees astray. She should go quietly. Anyone who really understood Riverside and wasn't just trying to make a buck off the taxpayers could have seen this bunch were misguided and destined for a fall. Now they have been totally repudiated, and if they had any sense they would advise Ms. Rush to start sending out her resume. She is all washed up here. When you are this wrong, this out of touch, you have to go. She and the President and a couple of the Trustees should all resign. But before they go, they should see if they can get any of the hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars they have squandered back from their consultant pals. And developers should know - Riverside is open and welcomes you, but you will have to build something the residents want, not just something that will make you a quick buck.

Welcome Clemons. I would say that any village manager of Riverside ought actually to LIVE in Riverside.

Hey, Spatny, I see in my email box you have a fan letter from Pot Kettle Smith. Gee, I hope this doesn't mean they've been trading emails about the TIF. Time for another FOIA request.

So now the Village Manager will be going back to the consultants to spend more money on a strategy that the voters refused. How much more? Wait and see. Now the consultants will know that the Board needs them more than the other way around, so the bill will, naturally, be going up. You could see that crew looking like they expected revolt when they first opened up. Then, as the program progressed, the scorched earth guys chimed in, and you could see a few of the others cringe. I wonder what the two new Trustees think when they see what they are being drawn into. They have no responsibility for this mess, or the money squandered, so why would they thwart the aspirations the very voters that elected them. They know what is right, and that the TIF is not the only funding strategy open to the Village.
An $8 million bond issue for defined goals and projects and a small amount for cosmetic work in the CBD might be far more effective than this TIF, and certainly work much more quickly. Why isn't the Board doing that, honoring the will of the voters and seeing if they can actually fill up the space that will soon be here with viable businesses. The answer is, of course, that building and promoting development with someone elses's money is more profitable - for some. Consultants, realtors, insurance peddlars, lenders - they may all profit from new construction.
Everyone seems to forget that this project has now gone full circle as the Board attempts to backpedal into their old mantra of "people want something done about the CBD." Those people that do, or that think the VC is a positive addition to our Village, should perhaps open a new business in town or move into the VC. I heard again last night some talk about replacing the old Youth Center with a hotel or restaurant. Are these people insane? Who will do this? Where will the customers and the workers park? Why do we want this? Are we hungry for traffic? These people have the bit in their mouths and won't drop it unless they are given a real shock. And that may be just ahead. Stay tuned.

Yes, who are those people that want something done about the CBD as the board conceives it? Do they come out to vote? If so, they have voted. Perhaps they are delusional when they say they want something done, as they apparently were when they voted.
The lackluster brain of McKenna has opined that there is no market for municipal bonds right now. Did I not hear that we are about to retire some bonds, thereby producing some little windfall of money? Good time perhaps for a new bond issue, provided the sage market expertise of Mr McKenna turned out to be wrong.

Actually "Those people" are Riverside residendts that responded to a village questionaire that was sent out to ALL riverside households quite some time ago. I got it and filled it out. If you don't recall it, its because you didn't bother to respond to it. One of the results ,from those who responded, was a dissatisfaction with the condition of the CBD and a concensus to attempt to improve the looks and businesses available in the cbd. It's not an old mantra spatny. Its the most recent one about what people want done in the cbd.

Mr. Sundstrom ~
According to the NIU document itself:
"The survey was sent to a random sample of 1000 registered voters."So it's not really fair to state that everyone could have filled out that survey. I am glad that you were one of the random voters and chose to fill it out!
(Edit: Unless there was another village questionairre that you referenced. If that is the case, do you mind reminding me which one that was?)
