Instead of keeping the fate of Grumpy's in limbo, I propose that Village residents do the following: We individually contribute an amount - anywhere from $10 to $100, to a fund to help defray the costs Dave will incur in moving to the train station. Dave could issue some kind of scrip that he could redeem at his convenience over the next few years - in product. So, say you contribute $10 to the moving fund, maybe you get a cone a year for the next 3-4 years. What's wrong with that? Couldn't all the people that want to have Grumpy's survive and prosper do that, and maybe also chip in some labor? I'll do it.

I did not know for sure that Grumpy's was moving to the train station for sure. Is that a done deal? If so, I would be willing to help with the moving labor in exchange for a cup of coffee.

On a (somewhat) related note, here's a two minute video of "the youngest grocer in America", 17 year old Nick Graham, who stepped up to save Truman Minnesota's only grocery store. You have to watch the video just to hear his Jimmy Stewart-like voice.

Any news on Grumpy's moving from the Arcade building? December 31, 2008 was when his lease expires, IIRC.

BTW, if you'd like to help Grumpy's relocate within Riverside, they're having a silent auction of donated items right now. Stop in and check it out.

I have no news. His lease does expire then, and Preservation is inquiring of the village about the further winterization of the Arcade that must ensue.

I think this is a good public clearing house on Grumpy's. A lot of people are on this site, including David, that are Grumpy supporters.

Catherine - to me, there are two issues.

    1. Save the Arcade
    2. Save Grumpy's (not necessarily in that order)

That Facebook group is for Save the Arcade, but there are Grumpy's-minded individuals there, for sure. I want to be sure both happen. A battle on many fronts (or at least two.)

Grumpy's is moving to the former Fresh Express, on Burlington near Chew Chew.

I stopped in on David Moreau and he was very gratified to learn that folks wanted to offer help. I am emailing him this link.

I wonder if all the equipment will fit in the new location? Or if there will be food served in the new location? Exciting!

David is serving coffee at the new Grumpy's location, 35 E. Burlington (old Fresh Express location, and right next to the Chew Chew.) He's open in the morning only right now, and it's a work in progress, but he's there and open for business.

    Hooray!

Yes, Grumpy's is now open - I learned about it from chris from his car window as he passed by this morning as I was going into the Riverside Foods to get horseradish and peaches (gotta have my morning horseradish!)

Of course, I went across the street and had an inaugural hot chocolate and blueberry muffin.

While there, I saw thru the window Scott Zimmer running around and talking to folks outside, too. I told David that he and Zimmer were a good tag team -serving different wants and needs - when they were in the other area before, and that it is curious that they ended up together again.

Best of luck to both of them. If we're gonna have a cup of Joe, a spot to eat, or some horseradish, let's give these local guys first dibs.

I felt like the town crier shouting out the window :-)
