Based on what I know of JBT and the couple times I have met her I find it an enormous stretch to think she endorsed Ms. Navarro just because she happens to be female.

Maybe it is because JBT knows of Ms. Navarro's experience, listened to her talk about the issues, read the endorsements written for Ms. Navarro or the fact she is a law professor.

Give JBT a ring and let us know.

What you have said is an insult to both JBT and Ms. Navarro.

Well that's one of those things you have to see in person - you should have bothered to attend. I know what I saw and heard.

I was at the GOP forum. I asked questions during the trustee segment. I also sat next JBT during the trustee part

Great, then you must have seen her rise and call out to the RCA candidates right at the end, as people were leaving, and ask them why they didn't have a woman among their number? And admonish them and all parties to have more women as candidates?

What is the arguement here? I think the endorsements are published. Endorsements are just that, endorsements. We still have free will. Let's use it. I said a couple months ago that the it would be Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Shevitz and the rest RVP. I still think I'm right. Too bad my "endorsement" doesn't carry any weight. At least no one will try to convince anyone that it is different from what I said.

Don, I think the question still stands. Did you specifically hear Ms. Topinka state that she endorsed Ms. Navarro because of her gender?

And, I agree with you on the value of endorsements. I've voted for JBT, but I'm a pretty solid Democrat, so the endorsement (be it from her personally or from the Township GOP) doesn't really mean a lot to me. Nor would an endorsement from the Township Democrats. This is politics at its most local, and it heartens me that all of us are thinking very deeply about the candidates and issues.

To end this - I said on another thread that when you hear two or three people talking and acting you get a picture of what is happening that you don't necessarily get from - or need words to - understand. I think JBT is a strong supporter of women, helped to crack the glass ceiling, blah, blah, blah. I don't care who she endorses - her last big choice that I remember was Alan Keyes. I looked at all the candidates - but since I have been arguing with the Villgae Board and some commissions about their spending and priorities and the like, I was saying a long time ago - several years ago - that one day another group would form and really contest an election here. I think the RCA - starting as it did from scratch - has done a great job of bringing issues and alternatives to the voter. Of course they are the underdog, running uphill as it were, but I feel they will prevail because the other has been too much of a closed group, is too out of step with what most people want, and has pursued some foolish and costly policies. We'll see what happens - my view is what I posted in that long retort yesterday - that now that there is a truly viable choice more people will come out and vote for the RCA candidates. The Caucus - Ooops, I mean RP candidates, are not my choice. I have fun conversations with Kevin, we have exchanged emails about other issues, we both think we are right, life goes on, we might yell at each other but that's OK, we are both participating each in his own way. As I said before I think Mr. Lesniak is dangerous for this cimmunity because he wants to build "things" - regardless of what they are. He's very sure he's right, he "knows more about Olmsted than you will ever know: - and I think he is a joke. He is, I guess, an architect - but I don't know what he builds. Whenhe says he likes or admires or whatver word he used in thet vein about the VC that pretty much tells me where is at, architecturally. He and the planner on that commission - the one involved with that junk out at Burr Ridge - are a one-two that would be very harmful for this Village - IN MY OPINION. Just my personal opinion - and I use my name when I post something. Have you noticed how few do?

I don't like to repeat what I have heard Ms Topinka said because it is gossip to do so, but it is not confined to her gender, although Ms Topinka certainly did make an issue of gender.

I do not think she endorsed her for her intelligence, no, sorry. If that were her criterion, there were plenty of other folks who better meet it. And it certainly is not her knowledge of village affairs.

I believe Tony will get more votes than Ms. Navarro. But not enough to get elected. He seems measured, she seems strident. Perhaps that's an occupational hazard that comes from having to deal with "the worst of the worst." That's just my own prediction.
