Has anyone noticed that warped metal facing that has been placed all over the VC? This must be a new low in the selection of materials and workmanship, even for that disaster. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it. Way to go, Village Board! You really brought us a winner? NOT!

Yes, I noticed it. I thought it was some rubber protective covering they were going to strip off to reveal something not warped beneath. My husband said, no, he didn't think so; that was it.

It makes a nice counterpoint to the exposed glass, rusty nails, and exposed plywood on the other side of the street. I thought that was going to be stripped to reveal something better too.

I think the metal materials are the gutter downspouts.

I'm talking about the material that runs horizontally and at weird angles. It looks to me like the stuff they form on sight from rolled, pre-painted material. On the Burlington side it has long scratches that look like the finish is coming off. It is not the gutters, it is the thin, warped metal fascia I am addressing. The material is too thin and probably misapplied and appears wavy and warped and looks like exactly what it is - the cheapest stuff around. It also forces some of the shingles up on those faux cat-slides and around the fake gable roof edges. Combined with the flat-roofed cheese-box dormers it's unbeatable. I would say it is a close rival to the old 1950s youth center in terms of quality and design, and will soon look like it. Accepting this design, its height and bulk borders on criminal. For the developers this is a commercial venture. They won't live in it, but we will have to tolerate it. It is our Board and Commission members that approved the code that allowed this thing to be built that should be held responsible. At the next election. Until then, we have to try to keep more of these fiascos from proliferating.

Don it looks to me like aluminum fascia, and the waves in a lot of places are from where it's fastened down. I notice it a lot in some spots and not so much in the others, depending on the angle and the light. There appears to be a couple types too, one that is smooth and the other that is ribbed or something.

Chris I went and had a look and you are correct about the fascia. Observing the buildings going up around town this aluminum siding and/or vinyl seems to be the material of choice these days.

Can anyone tell me if you need to have such things as sidewalks and paving and landscaping completed BEFORE a certificate of occupancy is issued for a commercial building?
