Did anyone else see the paper hung in the windows of the old laundromat indicating a kitchen and bath showroom is coming soon? Sorry I forget the name of it.

Yep, Denny Georgopolous told me he rented it to one of the LaMantias. There are builing out the interior as we speak.

Why? why would a bath and kitchen showroom want to open in Riverside during this time? is anyone remodeling or building?

Absolutely - just drive around. Surprising, yes, but folks are doing it.

Sure. 4 or 5 years ago people might have just moved when they wanted to upgrade. This may not be feasible anymore, so they'll do a rehab or just upgrade certain areas of their homes. I'm not saying its a widespread trend, but like Jill, I'm seeing it as well.

Why fault them for trying? I applaud anyone who has the cojones to open a business in this economy. Like the townhome development on Burlington & Cowley, I have a lot of respect for anyone who tries to get something new off the ground. It takes a lot of courage and conviction. I also think that people who are financially able to take advantage of the low prices on things these days (real estate, skilled labor, materials, credit) are going to be well positioned when we are out of recession.
Who knows, maybe they just need the property for a tax write-off; I have no idea. But still, it's good to see someone filling the empty storefronts.
