Fellow Residents. If you care about Riverside, if you don't want to see a row of badly designed, tasteless, oversize condos crammed into downtown Riverside I urge you to make the effort to get out and VOTE NO on all three TIF questions on the ballot April 17th. Development is already occurring in our downtown and will continue to do so WITHOUT A TIF. If the idea of your Trustees telling you they are "totally uninterested in the outcome of this election" offends you as it does me the only way you have to let them know that you haven't been fooled into believing that this TIF will solve all our problems and revitalize the CBD is to turn out and Vote this down by such a convincing number that they will have to pay attention. Please don't let Riverside become just another congested suburb along the tracks - get out and VOTE. This is your last chance to be heard.

Past is prologue. If the best indicator of future performance is past performance, then we must be wary of any initiative that would give this Board a sequestered stream of finance to use to "induce" more CBD development. They spent megabucks to establish a zoning code they promptly overrode and we now have the VC rising, rising in the center of town. If the TIF is enacted how can we doubt we'll get more of the same. All CBD property owners will think they are entitled to the same variance, and why not? This Board has stated what they want - Another hundred condos in town "as soon as possible." Riverside can't expand outwards - only upwards. Build a four story in Berwyn, and you can get so much. But build exactly the same building in Riverside and you can get a lot more for it - because of the parks, the schools, the ambiance. So the developers will come anyway. They are already prowling around. Don't be fooled by the argument that the TIF will give the Board "leverage to influence" what they build. Don't fee Riverside to the wolves. Protect our Village and VOTE NO on all three TIF questions. Send a message that you are against developer handouts.
