My thoughts are that Ms. Rush began looking for a new job after the defeat of the tax referendum and the TIF. The RCA was pretty public about their thoughts on her efforts.

That is incorrect. Others did a FOIA out there.

Spatny...take a stab at how many times you filed a FOIA...and then let's compare numbers. Your idea sounds wonderful...I think capitalizing on Zoo traffic is essential in helping to bring business into the CBD...but...Where will they park???????

Just 2 quick observations to add to this thread...

    1. Commissioner Zalas was sworn in to the EDC in March of 2008 - which to the best of my reckoning is over 1 year before the election. The fact that she was on the EDC prior to the RCA members' terms and was kept on as the chairperson of the committee tells me that her service must transcend political parties.

    2. All of the present trustees voted for the new law firm - not just the RCA.

The supposition that this is just another example of the RCA "bullying" people out of jobs doesn't really add up here.

    Beth,

I agree that any connection between an EDC member and the new firm is just coincidence. I don't see any issues there.

On the other hand, from everything I've read, it seems that the decision to replace our law firm was Mr. Gorman's. Certainly, the entire Board had to vote on it, but I have heard nothing to suggest that the non-RCA trustees (or even the other RCA trustees) were involved in the decision to replace the law firm. It really appears to be Gorman's deal.

But the larger point, and the point I was trying to make earlier, is that we just fired a law firm that charges $150 per hour, and hired onr that charges $190 per hour. And after we did this, Mr. Gorman stated it will save us money, but provided no facts or evidence to back up this claim. That's what I find so odd--the guy who made Village spending the central point of his campaign seems to have no problem signing us up with a firm that charges us a lot more money.

Beth, while I agree with some of your points, I find that the condescending public comments made by our Village President on a regular basis and the manner in which he treats those who have served the village reflects badly on us all. Mr. Gorman appears hell bend on continuing the “us versus them” attitude which I find destructive. The President of the Village sets the tone, and if he acted civilly I think we could all find common ground.

A new administration has the right to replace whomever they wish, but there is no need or justification to publically humiliate those they dismiss. Whether or not Mr. Gorman liked or disliked Laure Kosey, Katy Rush and Dean Krone, they are all professionals. Gorman seems unable to stop himself from making nasty statements at board meetings and to reporters.

I'm sorry, but I still don't see how the hiring a firm that charges the village more money is going to save us money. I also don't understand why the new Village President thinks it is ok to publicly slam anyone that he doesn't like or agree with. I understand that in public service, just like in the private sector, change at the top leads to change below, but I don’t understand the constant below the belt remarks. Is this leadership that people are to respect and follow?

And I wonder how RCA got elected but your response sums it up for me.

I've heard from a few commission members familiar with the new firm state that the new attorneys have specialized in municipality work for many years, and that initially Mr Krones firm was not specialized. After 12 years I would think he familiarized himself with this branch of law practice. Time will tell if it was a good move or not.
