The Landmark reports that Riverside's board of trustees voted unanimously to hire Pietro "Pete" Scalera as village manager.

He sounds great! He is young 38-year-old, has two young children, has worked in Glencoe for the past 11 years as the assistant vm. He starts on Oct. 1 and his starting salary is $114,000, plus benefits. No word on a severence package.

Thank you board for finding him without a search firm.

Agreed--he looks good, and Gorman and Saachi should be applauded for the selection of such qualified finalists.

Looks like the contract is pretty favorable for the VIllage, while still fair to the VM--no severence package, but he does get a village car for official use and for commuting.

It's sort of unusual these days to NOT use an executive search firm. I know RB is using one for their superintendent search and it's going to cost an estimated $25,000.

I wish the new guy good luck and thank you to Mike Gorman and Lonnie Sacchi to putting in the work to find this village manager.

Looks like they did a good job, found us someone that will strive for success here. And things should be looking up for me to build my Bikini-Bocce stadium with pari-mutuel betting via the internet. Roll 'em...

  5. Mr. Scalera does appear to be a great choice. Hopefully he'll be effective in dealing with the competing interests in Riverside. I understand he did not get a severance package (yet), of course neither did Katie initially.

Interesting that he got a car---perhaps it will need to be washed once in awhile.......

He got a CAR? What kind of a car?? Kind of unfair after bashing Katie about car WASHES.

Contract doesn't say--I'd guess it may be KR's old vehicle.

I don't think it's unfair--I'm sure it's SOP for this job. I am interested in the response from some of our other regular posters to this, as the fact that Katie had a vehicle drove some of them to spluttering indignation....

(FYI, the contract also provides that the Village will pay for maintainence, so I'd imagine car washes will be covered here--again, as they should be.)

I thought the new board got rid of Katie's car after the affront it presented to Riverside. Hmm.

I personally have no problem with the car, the cell phone, the PDA or the fact that he isn't subject to residency requirements.

I too take offense at the ethnic slur "bikini bocce stadium" when speaking of our new VM. It would have appeared to be a bonafide suggestion had the "bikini" part not been put in. I noticed earlier that another blogger chastised Mr. Spatny for doing so....Where did that comment go??? Are we being censored on this site??? And if so why would Mr. Spatny's comment be left in when it is an obvious slur and disrespectful I might add.

While I disagree with Don on almost everything, fairness compels me to note that he's rehashing a joking suggestion he made a year or so ago. I really don't think he meant it as an ethnic slur.

What I am interested in--and the silence is getting deafening--is why the people who screamed bloody murder about Katy Rush having a car don't seem to care about the new VM having one. It's almost like the Katy Rush car issue was solely raised for political reasons...
