Olmsted had a plan and we reap its benefits 100 years later. What kind of legacy will our generation leave? We need a plan, not a TIF.

I heard the meeting was packed & lively. I also heard the meeting was over 3 hrs long!Unfortunately, I was out of town & I don't have cable. I'd love to see it. Does anyone have it on tape yet?

I think you can order a DVD of it for $15 from Channel 6: I downloaded the PDF form from the village website here: http://tinyurl.com/y5y926 (why are normal village website URLs so long??)
The form says the videos are normally available 14 days after the showing. So, that's next week, I think.
Oh yeah, the meeting was long (over 3 hours) and pretty packed, although there were still seats available up front. It's worth watching if you can find a copy.

There is a recording on CD ROM of the meeting at the library, albeit it cuts off the Olmsted Society's remarks at the end. I have it, I will return it. Has anyone requested a certified transcript of the court reporter's transcript be made available? If not, I will.

I thought that the 11-21 public comment meeting was a joke a charade a fiasco!
I felt frustrated, disprespected, offended; in short I felt disenfranchised.
It is absolutely incredible that they summarily put my and 12 others houses on a list to be demolished for no good reason, completely upsetting familys' life and they are giving us just 5 minutes to comment and ask questions! The next official public comment time on the tif is feb something only a few days or weeks from the real trustee vote. bad faith.
While I see that they had to apportion time to get everyone in, they did not honor their promise to me to hear my other comments after my 5 minutes expired. They promised that I could speak at the end. But when I went up to the podium, they said that was all. bad faith.
Also, to a person, I saw no real answers given. It was like they were just going through an empty exercise. It was as if they were suffering 'the angry peasants with their raised rakes'. bad faith.
Why did they schedule this comment period on one of the busiest holiday times in the year? bad faith.
When it was obvious that there were more comments to be heard on this issue, why didn't they add more public meetings? That would be what a municipality would do that were really interested and responsive to their electorate. bad faith.
In answer to my question about when there will be other times to comment, they replied, at board meetings. Today's board meeting, I see that one can only comment on 2007 budget items.
This is an example of bad faith in getting real input or public comment on the tif.

I agree with you Mike. The pomposity and arrogance on display behind that table was beyond belief. Who do these people think they are, anyway? I agree the appropriate response to a crowded, 4 hour long meeting was to call for another meeting in December and monthly, at least. And one in which questions are answered, not merely received as if one were having an audience with the King.

Catherine said (of the 11-21 public comment meeting)---
Has anyone requested a certified transcript of the court reporter's transcript be made available? If not, I will.Does anyone know where I can get to see the transcipt of the 11-21 meeting. Same question for the 12-4, and 12018 meetings?

I'm pretty sure the transcript isn't available yet because I don't have it.

The 11/21 meeting was a disaster and there was plenty of blame to go around. The 11/9 meeting was completely different. The meeting was open to the public, but only taxing bodies and commission members were invited to ask questions. I found this to be extremely educational. The intent of the 11/21 meeting was the same, but it deteriorated rapidly with personal attacks and very few questions. Emotions were high, especially with residents within the TIF boundary. I do feel the Village and its consultants did a poor job on 11/21 as opposed to 11/9. I was encouraged by one gentlemen who lived in the proposed TIF district who did comment on how impressed he was with the time Kathleen Rush spent with him in educating him on the proposal. The public meetings to date were not required and were a good-faith attempt to educate the public. If anyone has a sincere interest in better understanding the issues, I think it is important to seek out rational arguments on both sides and make your own decision. I don't think anyone on either side should feel good about how the events of 11/21 transpired and I'm certain the transcripts and video will reflect that.
