    Catherine,

Mr. Wachtel provided the answers to the financial accounting of the Parking Lot project and the ramifications of not completing of the project on pages 91 and 92 of the June 1 Board Agenda. I would have provided the link, but it was a 300+ page file and it takes forever to download.

With regards to attending Board meeting - the concept of "Government on demand" is not a new. Some residents, including me, actually watch the meetings on local cable and have done so for years. Thank you though for letting me know that one must be seen to be deemed "involved".

As to your thoughts that I am attempting to undermine the new majority, none of my posts have contained any political overtones or undertones. To the contrary, I am a strong supporter of a majority of the current Board. I have publicly commended the work that Trustee Sacchi has provided the Village and believe it or not, I actually voted for Trustee Reynolds. The only way for Riverside to survive and prosper is if our current Board succeeds.

I wasn't sure if you were trying to lecture me or just being rude, but please chose your words a little more carefully.

    TonyM,

I for one am glad that you have started posting here, and I second your observation that one does not need to attend Board meetings on a regular basis to keep abreast of Village issues. I understand that it could come as a shock to some people, but many of us do have other responsibilities which make attendance at meetings difficult. However, there are other ways to view these meetings, and I understand that we'll be seeing even more improvements in this area--and good for the Board for taking this initiative.

    Don,

Your point about Swan Pond is a good one. I moved back to the area in 2007, and shortly after that, we got the huge rainstorm that resulted in Swan Pond being flooded. I immediately took my kids down there to show them, saying that "You won't see this again for another 10-15 years"--I only recall this happening once during the 20 years I lived here before.

Well, Dad was wrong again, because this is becoming routine. SOmething needs to be done down there, or the nature of Swan Pond is going to change drastically--you can already see the sediment that's piled up in the park around the little dam area.

It is a simple question, Tony M. How will the parking lot fund proceeds pay for this lot when a large loan had to be taken out to 'accomplish' this purchase in the first place? This does not require a 300 page answer; it is your proposition.

As anyone here will tell you, I do not take diction instructions from anyone, especially people who cannot spell. As for rude, you took the cake with that letter you wrote the Landmark when the campaign opened, entitled "Who Does the RCA Think They're Fooling?" So you are not one to lecture on this topic either:

Yes, many claim to religiously watch board meetings. They don't have time to go but they have time to write here, and often their remarks do not reflect understanding of the issues. So you will forgive my occasional incredulity.

I repeat: It is a simple question, Tony M. How will the parking lot fund proceeds pay for this lot when a large loan had to be taken out to 'accomplish' this purchase in the first place? A simple sentence will suffice. I know after rereading your letter you will not want to risk wasting the people's money.

    Catherine -

Thanks for refreshing Tony Ms February campaign article about the Village's budget deficit. I didn't find the article to be rude, I found it spot on - the deficit is much worse than what was projected. The board is addressing the budget tonight. What should be done about the deficit??

I think it is rude to compare a political platform to an attempt to sell swampland in the Everglades, but call me sensitive.

So why don't we start dealing with the deficit right now and sell that land to repay that loan the administration took out to buy this property? Or someone please tell me how this lot is going to pay for itself in the future when it could not do so now. JohnM can tell you I am no financial genius.

So again, I repeat: It is a simple question, Tony M. How will the parking lot fund proceeds pay for this lot when a large loan had to be taken out to 'accomplish' this purchase in the first place? A simple sentence will suffice. I know after rereading your letter you will not want to risk wasting the people's money.

Anyone that is in the downtown area on a frequent basis can see that throughout the day there are several occasions where there are NO PARKING SPOTS available for various periods of time. This is especially a problem on Friday and Saturdays. You want to keep viable stores in town then you need additional parking. NOT AN OPINION, A FACT! This whole disscussion about doing away with the lot on the east end of the CBD points out to me that, as usual, a great many people in town do not support business in Riverside. As we have lost more and more retail operations over the years it is apparent, to me, that it has diminished the charm of Riverside. Bid out the various elements of finishing this project, as would be fiscally prudent, but then be done with it and get it finished.

Once again, as one who goes out of her way to use Riverside goods and services, including having used yours, I resent the extortionate claim that whoever does not support a million dollar parking lot in these times does not support local business. Maybe one reason some people do not support certain local businesses is they do not like proprietors insulting them or their elected representatives. We support businesses by using them, not by providing massive government subsidies to them.

I am glad you agree it is right and prudent to try to get better prices for the remaining costs.

But my question remains unanswered. It is a simple question. How will the parking lot fund proceeds pay for this lot when a large loan had to be taken out to 'accomplish' this purchase in the first place? A simple sentence will suffice. I know that in these times no one wants to risk blowing the people's money.

    Catherine,

Please refer to pages 91 and 92 of June 1, 2009 Board Agenda for your answer.

I went to Oak Brook for the Father's Day Car Show, a big event, and the lots were really full, like at Christmas. That's how things are. Sometimes you have to walk a bit to a space.I rarely see cars filling Longcommon spaces or even East Ave. in the day. I think it would be great to have a lot of things, but when you don't have unlimited resources you have to make choices. Giving the merchants a hand by providing the $2K gravel lot for overflow is a good way to buy some time to do a better and more cost effective job on a permanent lot.

Actually Catherine I was not referencing you in particular, and I do not recall insulting you or any elected officals, then again maybe you were not refering to me specifically Hmmm? Wether you like it or not there is a general perception in the Riverside business community that past village boards and a substantial portion of the Riverside populace do not support Riverside business(s). You won't get many, or any of them for that matter, to publically say this for fear of a reaction as seen in your vitrolic responce to my reply.
