    D96 to host TIF forum
The Finance Committee of Riverside Elementary School District 96 will be holding a special public meeting April 5 to discuss the potential impact of establishing a tax increment finance (TIF) district in Riverside's downtown area on the district's financial resources.

Superintendent Jonathan Lamberson said the meeting would take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the auditorium of Hauser Junior High School. In addition to school board members, he said Village Manager Kathleen Rush would also be in attendance.

The meeting will address one of the main concerns opponents of the TIF district have had with the proposed plan for economic growth in Riverside's business district. Throughout the long debate on the subject, it has never been entirely clear how the district's revenues would be affected by a TIF district. Lamberson said the goal of the meeting was to better establish the possible outcomes.

"We're simply going to talk for two hours about the impact of a TIF on the school district, in the short term and the long term," he said. "I envision the meeting being very helpful to us in terms of understanding the nuances of the issue."

Does this mean that McKenna finally collected school impact numbers? It also appears that McKenna will not be there. Two points right away:

    1) the village saved a lot of money by keeping him out of Hauser auditorium.
    2) if there are hard questions, 'outside the box', can we expect adequate answers?

I wonder if there will be public questions allowed? It is a public school system, after all.

As I have said before in this forum, I have not seen the incisive questions from the distict 96 of a scheme that would cabin their revenues for over two decades that I would expect. So on what basis would I have confidence that they will now ask those quesitons?

Also, There is no mention of district 208's view of the TIF.
