The only identifiable agenda so far is to "stop the flow" of all spending
That's not a bad start. Stop the bleeding.

There's that, but there's also 'stop the fixing'. Public works was pulling together bids to fix the firehouse driveway more than a year ago. Which means the problem was identified well before that. To have Trustee Sacchi say 'nah, don't need to replace it now. Just fill the cracks for a few more years' was just ridiculous. He's an engineer? A contractor? It'll likely cost more in the long run. This is our firehouse we're talking about...
It's sort of funny to hear the criticism of ignoring advisory commissions. It's been going on for as long as I've been paying attention to village politics. Check this from a couple years ago:
http://www.riversideinfo.org/forum/topic/nov-19-village-board-meeting#post-5951
And I haven't been paying attention for as long as some. I'm certain there are many more instances of the recommendations of advisory commissions being ignored. This is nothing new. Wasn't there some flap a few years ago with the LAC and someone being sacked or resigning?
I have a theory on people who volunteer for leadership positions (PTA, school board, village board, commissioner). You might seem like a normal, reasonable person before getting your position, but after you're selected (picked or voted in) you go insane. I don't mean medically insane, but there is something that snaps in your brain that causes you to make decisions that on the surface seem to be completely irrational, unexplainable or contrary. It causes the people who voted for you to question their decision.
Not ever having volunteered for a position like that, or been selected for one by voters, I can't say what it is that actually happens, but it's hard to explain when seen from the outside. I suspect there is some character trait that causes a person to seek a position like village board or PTA or school board, and whatever that trait is affects the decision you make after you get into office. Or maybe things just look different once you're on the inside.
JillM - good point.
Before our street was repaved a couple years ago, Jack and Katie came to the house on a Sunday and asked if we (our household) had any concerns. At the time, I mentioned that I didn't want them to repave my street since it was still pretty good. Why not fix Quincy or Akenside since they were much worse. Jack explained that those streets needed to be replaced (basically) and would be done in due time: they were already too far gone. My street could just be resurfaced since it was not that bad yet. So, they were able to spend less money fixing my street before it was too far gone where other streets were already long overdue and needed to be completely rebuilt.
No idea on the condition of the firehouse driveway.
North Riverside was able to replace the driveway in front of their firehouse, and this was no small area!
Maybe 'the others' have bigger fire trucks?? (Just kidding...)
Wake up! The Village Agenda should be to husband our resources. Tougher times are coming. There is a trillion dollars of commercial loans that are close to default, or already in default. Take a look at this video from the News Hour. This is all around us...
