I got a flyer from the RCA today. The attack dogs are out.

The RCA said they could both lower taxes and hold the line on taxes. Which is it? I prefer lower taxes.

Interestingly they bring up the Caucus (open to all Riverside citizens) but do not explain how they chose their candidates.

Hopefully both sides will from now on and present their plans and not attack candidates who were not involved in actions of the past.

Campaign is going to fun now that promises are being made. We all know how well promises about taxes go Mr. President 41!

If you are sitting candidate, your past actions are DEFINITELY an appropriate target for attack - or a source of support if those actions are something one liked.

  3. I also got the RCA flyer today.

WOW! When did Karl Rove move to Riverside?

He's been on the Board for a long time - you should go to the meetings.

I think summer was referring to Mike Gorman, silly.

  6. Actually, I have attended a number of Board Meetings Mr. Spatny. Having voted against the tax referendum in November, the idea that the RCA can take credit for its failure is ludicrous. Yes, commonsense, I think Gorman et al are the epitome of Bush/Cheney/Rove circa 2004. Fear. Lies. Fear. Lies.

I also got this mailer today from the RCA. What a bill of goods! The RCA is so Bladgovoich, say anything, do nothing. They seemed sincere, for about 5 minutes.
Increase services, lower taxes, you have got to be kidding me. What a disappointment.

Let's all have less name calling ("Karl Rove", "Bladgovich" ) and please copy the mailer in this thread, in which it wd logically fit. I have not seen the mailer. Name calling itself is a Rovian tactic. Doh! With apologies to that 1980s Russian comic, 'What a culture!". We are all living in a Rovian landscape now.

Riverside20904, I believe if you were reading the flyer without bias it would be obvious to you that it means this is the party of people that were vocally against the tax increase, whilst Kevin Smith and the last Caucus-selected board were in favor of it. 3880 folks have never voted on any local initiative in at least the last ten years, if ever. It is laughable to think this would have happened without the effort to inform. Mike Gorman was alone in vocally opposing the failure to consider budget cuts in lieu of raising taxes, during and after his service on the Long Term Finance Committee. 1770 people, more than voted for any candidate in the same period, voted down the TIF. That is down to these candidates and all the people working with them who expended shoe leather informing their neighbors of these matters. They were chosen by the popular acclaim of the many, many people who were involved in these two efforts over the course of two years, and not by 12 people.

No, the Caucus is not open to all Riverside residents. That is also a howler. There membership is limited to 90 people, they have to "accept" you, and their nominating committee consists of 12 people. This year it was headed by the spouse of the current village president.

I wondered whether you were a person really interested in discussion, or a troll for Kevin Smith and/or the Caucus. I have my answer.

Again, it is easy to criticize people who actually take the trouble to inform and stake out positions, instead of standing back, co-opting the positions of your opposition, then taking the Rose Garden strategy. The RCA has called a town hall. When will the Riverside Party emerge from the living rooms of the few to the public square of the many?

Then perhaps we could have a conversation that rose above the level of calling people Blago and Rove.

I meant troll in this sense: "angle with a hook and line drawn through the water", not as in internet troll.
