Sorry - I was rushed and got my wires crossed. I've been monitoring the newspaper retorts, Caucus and other web sites, and those dealing with Dist. 208 as well. And private and public conversations with people I meet in town. Some of the people have been quite nasty, and considering who they are that makes me feel like I may have helped to accomplish something. I just don't want to respond to people's little digs - the campaign is over. Let's try and help the town - anybody who wants to help me clean up some areas that need it, now's the perfect time - before the understory plants grow in.

John M, I was checking that out today. There is this Riverside Community Website which has a discussion forum. Looks rather unused. I noticed some of the data in the organizations tab is old and not up to date. Some of the other tabs are current. I sent for a password, but have not received one yet. Not sure if that is another good place to start some conversation, but I am willing to give it a try.

Just for everyone' info and in the spirit of getting to greater communication, which is germane to this thread, please list all the local information reservoirs, taps, rss feeds, or blogging sites for either one way or two way communication.

Someone mentioned at one recent d208 meeting, the blogs will be running hot tonight. I noticed the person said the plural. this one is the only two way local blog w/ immediate posting and feedback that I know of. PLus this blog has not been exactly hot (until very recently ) on school matters. This probably should be changed since the schools acct for more of our tax money. But, as spatny said somewhere today, the activity here reflects whatever someone wants to say. Village type things seem to percolate up more often here (probably because this blog was birthed from a village initiative (tif).

I'll start with what I know...

anything Riverside.... posts two-way Blog, 8,600 posts
    www.riversideinfo.org

and a search facility within this blog (and you thought I ate omega 3s; hint to get a specific blog entry, you have to search on a word that appears in that entry very less often than other entries; also for effective searching, assign tags and then click and search on the tags in the upper right corner of the normal r-info web page)
    http://riversideinfo.org/forum/search.php?q=food

    Riverside Community

    http://www.riverside-illinois.com/History.htm

    a forum under this one
http://riverside-illinois.us/wordpress/ two-way Blog, very lightly used

Riverside municipality (1-way Village to us)
    http://www.riverside.il.us/

Riverside municipality, eflash , which gives notification of important Village items to subscribers
    http://tinyurl.com/da5xxt

    SCHOOLS

    http://www.riverside-illinois.com/schools.htm (1-way schools/orgs to us)

    District 208

    - RB HS webpage (1-way RBHS to us)
    http://www.rbhs.w-cook.k12.il.us/

there is some sort of EVENT something or other that RB offers as more 1 way info shooting to specific emails (is that the same as RS feed?), but I have never been able to get that device enabled for me after trying to register three times. On the internet, if something does not work that well, or is hard to work, it is almost useless. my to-do list is to call someone about this isssue.

    District 96
    http://www.district96.org/ (1-way D96 to us)

this site contains links to each d 96 school; however, I noticed that at least some of the schools seem to have separate ones. hauser , eg:
    http://www.district96.org/hauser/ (1-way hauser to us)

District 96 - Hauser jr high (1-way D96 to us)
    http://209.7.33.2/Hauser/Hauser_Welcome.html

    local Newspapers

    Riverside Landmark
    http://rblandmark.com/
QUESTION: is there some kind of two way blog contained here? There is a comments sections after articles and LTEs, i think, but I have seen only two of the several comments I have submitted ever published, and then ater two days; hardly robust communication. Same with the hardcopy LTEs - some of my submissions have not been printed, for whatever reason.

I love the virtual trustee idea. It is my recollection that the board tried the town hall meeting concept and found that they were generally not well attended.

I imagine the president/trustees read this blog and pull ideas from this site. While this blog is better than nothing and the intent was good, there has to be a better, more constructive way for the citizen’s voices to be heard. It appears that the blog in its current form allows people to blow off seam and serves a purpose

If this site had a virtual space designed for communicating exclusively with the president/trustees, sans the tirades and bickering they would be inclined to listen. I don’t think you can expect the trustees/president to post back, but at least the many great ideas out there may find their way out of cyberspace.

If the board wants to look at the rest of the postings, they are free to do so. I say carve out a place where our leaders will enjoy reading the great ideas and constructive criticism.

Another great way to communicate with a trustee (and one certain to reach them, as this forum is not) is to send the trustee a note, email, invite to coffee, or even better, go to a board meeting and share your idea with them directly. Also, whatever the topic, if it relates to one of the commissions, start there with your idea. Having a commission behind the idea (or at least willing to consider it) when you take it to the board, is always helpful.

Trustees don't read this blog at all that I am aware of; that is not now nor has it ever been its purpose.

    Catherine,

With all due respect, get real. Getting the attention of trustees and residents was the entire purpose of this blog. It has worked. Please don't tell me that you are backing out now. Please tell me that now that the battle has been won, some one will stick around to continue to provide input from the jedermannern.

Fred, cool palabra , but me no sprechen ze deutch! We (probably) are sticking 'round here (see that d96 $ thread where we have a real live object to examine), but the question is whether, and if ever, the candidates ever visited (during this last go-'round). methinx, nein! But maybe they'll jump in later as trustees. we can send to them a link where there was a good discussion of something they are trucking in - sort of like an RSS feed from our end.

Entire purpose of anything is a tall order to describe. This site to me was/is a way to propose, work out ideas (germane to Riverside), bounce them off of people, reality-test them, subject them to examination, and respond to the same of others' and not pre-thought out political campaign bytes. We almost always had productive exchanges with the pro-tif people; same with anti-RCA people. I even alluded once or twice as this being akin to chatting at a bar. At tif time, the RCA 4 cd be seen here, as well as the sitting trustees.

    .

But this is not to say that SOME higher tech thing can not be used for better comm, for us at least, and to start with, to...

*keep up to speed on directives, policies, initiatives
*ask logical questions at the right times

that rss feed idea sounds good - push out emails with appropriate embedded links to the relevant docs w/ some advanced warning.

Is Kim Jacobs originator of this site? Kim you are on the Olmsted Society with Lonnie S., Jim R., and Mark S. Kim do you know if they do? Since it was started with the Tif effort, Mark S. would most likely is familiar with it. That might help answer whether the trustees read this blog. Or possibly, will read this blog.

Of course board members read the blog - candidate Jim Reynolds posted a few weeks back, I'm sure he will continue to weigh in. During the election, referrendum and the TIF discussions there was posturing galore, but I'll take the good with the bad.

This a great tool to enable regular people to take part in great discussion of Riverside. You can't rely on everything to be true, its kind of like wikopedia, but at least it gives you a jumping off point.

It will never take the place of face to face interaction, but it has its place.
