That was after the vote, right HR? Remember that? This is a perfect example of misrepresentation.

John, dismayed, etc. - you must not have been listening carefully. They are not "dissolving" the Rec Board. That was stated numerous times. Over and over and over.

Obviously the people that are posting here do not want to recognize or admit that "disolving" the Rec Board was not proposed. I don't want to waste any more time answering the same thing over and over. Write the Village Manager, President, the Board members. I don't speak for any of them. But I do listen, and I know what I heard.

?? Then what are they proposing, Don? The plan is to introduce an Ordinance that will dissolve the Rec Board and replace it with a Commission. They are not planning on dissolving the Rec Department, but the Board as it is currently constituted is going to be eliminated.

Look - I don't know what the Ordinance says and neither do you. It hasn't even been written. My understanding was that the Rec Board will function as a Commission, like all the others. Presumably they will propose expenditures, programs and policies like they do now, but the Village Manager and the Board will have some form of oversight. Since I know nothing about this as yet unwritten Ordinance I do not want to engage in any more guessing. It will be presented next month, and be discussed at two meetings. If you can't wait to question them, write them and ask. I have nothing to do with this. I just don't like to see this treated like Healthcare Reform was. There are no death panels, not for old ladies, not for the Rec Department.

The only reason I even posted here was because I saw my friend and neighbor's name being tossed about. People with little to say in the way of facts like to go back to things in the past. I thought it was great when Barack Obama went to the funeral of Robert Byrd, who was a member of the KKK, and eulogized him. But those are big men.

Glad to see you haven't lost your touch , Don. Giving up on the argument and then throwing in an insult at the end. Honestly, though, I don't feel too diminished--most of us will never be President or US senators.

But I do take issue with your claim that I have little to say in the way of facts:

Fact 1: the Village Board is seeking to gain control over the Parks and Rec tax levy.

Fact 2: they are seeking to do this by eliminating the Parks and Rec Board as an entity with authority over its own budget and reducing it to the status of an advisory commission.

Fact 3: Trustee Sacchi has consistently taken positions that indicate an opposition to active recreation in Riverside parks.

Fact 4: The proposed change to the structure and authority of the Parks and Rec Board will not result in any financial savings to the Village.

Facts are stubborn things, Don. I understand that. But really, can't your friends just admit they want the money and be done with it? they believe they will better stewards of the rec levy money than the Rec board is. I don't believe they've shown any proof of this.

spatny, you sound like nancy pelosi: (substitute "ordinance" for "bill") “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.

    JohnM you forgot:

Fact 5: Not even the RCA can produce a single reason why this change would benefit the Village!

Karen Layng seems to be quite a lady. Mr Malina might want to take a lesson from her. Infact these guys best pay attention too. Litigation costs could very well be extraordinary.

Folks, trying to have a reasoned arguement with Spatny is a waste of time. He is too busy drinking the cool aid to realize how much of a hypocrite he is by taking these positions.

I think our time would be best served by proving that Gorman, Shevitz and crew are a bunch of power hungry liars. They claim that the silent majority of residents support their efforts on this issue. Well, I say we put this dubious claim to a test. Regardless of what steps they take between now and September, I suggest we turn the tables on these folks. I think we should work to put an advisory referendum regarding this issue on the next possible ballot. Any thoughts?

Just wondering how many of our town's precious pennies will go towards the village attorney to craft/support/defend this new ordinance?

I got the answer to my question from a well informed source.

The Parks and Recreation board searches and hires the Parks and Rec director - the salary is then negotiated by the Village Board via the Village Manager.

In the case of the former Parks and Rec director Laurie Kosey, whose (pre-cut) salary level I believe to be the genesis of this entire discussion, her salary was increased to the pre-cut level because the Village Board did a study and found she was underpaid for her education. According to the same source, the Parks and Rec board was never asked their opinion regarding this matter.

This seems quite relevant to the discussion to me. If the Village Board has been in charge of the salary negotiations for the director all along, it appears that they have been and are still controlling a significant portion of the Parks and Rec budget already.

    Am I missing something?
