Stevie, the terrified kitten

This morning Thomas and I are driving home from the grandparents. We exit the Stevenson at First Ave. There is traffic, so it is slow going. We are on that huge overpass, that extends over the highway, going slow enough that in the middle of the bridge Thomas spies this tiny little stripey orange kitty with his back against a column, on the ledge, shivering with terror. He(she) has two choices, jump into traffic far below, or get run over by any one of hundreds of cars just 5 feet away.

Well, with lightening fast Jacobs' action, (and the help of many motorists on the overpass,) kitty was quickly confiscated and tossed into the Jetta. A call to Hinsdale Humane Society proved fruitful as they were able to take in the terrified little thing immediately. (And if you know us, you know we would have SO kept the kitty, except that sushicat is evil to all other cats in the world as she thinks she is a dog. The irony being our dogs are nicer to cats than our cat is.... I digress.)

So, should one have a hankering for Stevie kitty (so named after his/her found locale)he/she is available at Hinsdale Humane Society.

As fate would have it, it is adopt a kitty month in Hinsdale and there are lots of free cat goodies with adoptions.

Since I have not had my own laptop since the 5th grade, I do not know how to attach the picture of said kitty here (well that, and I am too lazy to learn.) If you would like to see the kitty, I can email you a picture.

Kudos Kim and Thomas for rescuing Stevie. Here's hoping s/he finds a welcoming home soon, away from the bridge!

My hero! Both of you. Does Tom wear one of those little barrels filled with brandy around his neck when he is out doing this rescue work? Maybe he can come and rescue me from the Swan Pond, which incidentally is flooded again. Good show and great role models for the kids.

I've adopted a raccoon family - mother and three babies - that live in a wonderful old tree down toward Miller Rd. We drop them some treats every night which they enjoy before they traverse the town on their garbage inspection rounds. We also drop some apples to a couple deer that live up near Indian Gardens, and saw a tiny fawn last week with her mom. Riverside's wild nightlife includes a beaver family and plenty of 'possums too. Enjoy.
