Since Village President Mike Gorman did not say it I will. I guess with all self congratulatory speech it is easy to miss those who did the real work.

Thanks to the Friends of the Fourth for great events this weekend.

Also to the P&R Department, Public Works, Police Dept. and Fire Dept - GREAT JOB!

Sadly did not see any of the B of T elected in 2009 getting their hands dirty.

Yes, thank you, Friends of the Fourth. It was a great parade and post festivities. Lyons had great fireworks. I'm disappointed that North Riverside continues to be an Independence Day Scrooge. It makes the sacrifice and hard work by the Friends of the $th all the more special.

is this the same "Friends of the 4th" group from years ago that used to do a chestnut wagon at the Christmas walk?

Thank you for the kind words, but the real thanks belong to the residents of Riverside whose kindness and generosity make our Independence Day celebrations possible. Without their support and the great work by our Village staff these events simply would not happen. Looking out over the record crowd on July 3, and seeing all the families and neighbors lining the parade route on the Fourth and mingling in Guthrie Park after the parade was a wonderful experience, and made the Friends of the Fourth about as happy as we can be.

The Friends of the Fourth organizing group are: JoAnne Kosey, Joe Ballerine, Rey Navarro, Danny Jisa, Andy Daun, and me. This is not the same group that was active some years ago. The real Friends of the Fourth, though, are all of the residents who support our efforts.
