Get a load of the "news" coverage of Rush's resignation, and the fantastically inappropriate editorial. What a rag.

The two main news stories in the campaign were "War of Words in Riverside" and "Gloves Off in Riverside." This paper repeatedly gives headlines to Letters to the Editor that are inflammatory and not reflective of the content of the letter. This is just pot-stirring at our expense in an effort to sell sensationalism.

I think this paper is a divisive influence in this community. By comparison, the Life's coverage has greatly improved, and it confined itself to the facts during the campaign. It offered interviews and a useful election guide containing candidate statements from all candidates.

Someone was once incredulous of the idea that the Landmark editor ought to live in Riverside. In the 90s, a Riverside gentleman named Finnegan ran the paper, the Riverside Landmark. It was intelligent, interesting and witty. The police blotter was particularly memorable. I believe he moved and it was sold to Judy Barr Topinka, another resident. Then it was sold to its current group. It is sad how it has gone downhill, truly.

Could be time for a new newsletter. As to the Life, compare:

    Catherine -

Here is a suggestion that may help keep you calm - Don't read the Landmark.

And here is a second suggestion. You like to write - start your own paper or at least a website. While often I don't agree with Spatny, I do enjoy his writing style so hire him too. I'll subscribe.
