The sidewalk is now done, the lights are on 24-7 as Spatny noted, and the VC is getting closer to 'showtime'. We might even have parking. One thing is for sure, it is big, and it is not going away. There are what, 4, 5, or 6 retail spaces on the ground floor? I believe one is taken (for a flower shop+).

Does anyone know what is planned for the other ground floor units? And, what ideas for ground floor establishments do you people think could work? Does anyone know what the asking price is per sq foot of the ground spaces, and how much sq feet each unit is? With such info one might more reasonable think of ideas.

I am pretty sure that there was discussion in this forum on ideas for the VC ground retail, but I could not find specific links. Anyone who can find them, please feel free to add them here.

quick question: would that flower shop be a competitor to the already existing one on Burlington, or is it one and the same, in which case we'd have another empty space across the street?).

I have heard of 3 restaurants with varying levels of interest that were repulsed by above-market prices. We do have the limited NIU study indicating there is a market for food in any form.

This is a different florist. We also have one on Harlem.

On further thought: The owner / developer of the VC is the professional commercial real estate operator here and that group probably knows a heckuva lot more than me on a project such as this. I am sure there are solid business ideas at work.

Mike - FLlW said: "The measure of a man's culture is the measure of his appreciation. We are ourselves what we appreciate, and no more." That building tells a lot about the people that built it, and those that approved it. Don't give too much credence to developers' ideas. I think the VC is the kind of citrus you squeeze on fish.
