Agreed, Don, that Central school is a great example of Romanesque architecture; and, applying Prince Charles' notion (noted in the Riverside vision thread) that prominent buildings within the town's landscape reflect how much importance a town values something, of course says how important the town felt about schooling in 1897 - and certainly how important education is today.
I put the picture of Central's tower into this 'The Village Center' thread and not into the 'Riverside Vision' thread because I wanted to point out how the Central tower might coordinate with the corner element of the VC. A final design review of the whole project was not done apparently so that it was not clear how out of proportion the corner was after satisfying some abstract numbers requirement in the zoning. I am in the Information Systems development business, and there is a saying: you cannot cheat the design review step.
So: I hope we can fix this problem in the VC's design so that it fits into riverside's urban space better and since it would not entail a major re-do of the whole concept. VC builders, Riverside Commissions, and Board, can we have this for Christmas, maybe even as a Holiday Walk present?
