...and those of you checking this board from the riverside.il.us domain (and the visitor logs show plenty of views from that server):

Thanks for using our tax dollars to produce and mail a 4-page pro-TIF mailer at the same time that you're crying poor in order to get a TIF pushed through.

Nice fiscal management. And we're supposed to trust you with $20MM?

I hope we can look forward to an editorial from the Landmark, which rightly condemned RBHS' sleazy tactic of electioneering at taxpayer expense also.

This mailer was solely a vehicle to get a pro-TIF vote, even though the charade of "considering all points of view" is supposed to be happening. Looking for votes for individual candidates running in uncontested elections is not worth spending better than fifty cents per household of taxpayer funds.

Please describe this mailer here - I did not receive a copy of it - and tell me whether it violates the law as set forth here from the Riverside Ethics Ordinance:

    1-19-1 (Definitions) "Prohibited Political Activity"
    includes, in relevant part:

    (K) Distributing, preparing for distribution, or
mailing campaign literature, campaign signs, or other
campaign material on behalf of any candidate for
elective office or for or against any referendum
    question.

It probably can squeek in because of the wording. What they should do now is recognize that the TIF is not wanted by the residents and drop it, and cancel the special meeting scheduled for Friday. If they attempt to continue this charade after this unmistakeable rebuke of their policy intentions, then we should see if there isn't a way to sue them jointly and severally. Hopefully that won't be necessary, and we won't have to waste our money or the Village's - although I would think that since this is a Landmark Olmsted village we could find a pro bono counsel to stop them. If they were honest they would admit defeat and stop wasting money on this - McKenna will want more money to continue and if they send him one penny more we should let loose the dogs. I can't believe that, outside of their mindless clique they have no support for this. Surely there is a mechanism for stopping them sending more good money after bad.

Spatny, I believe that "special" meeting is presently scheduled for Monday, April 23, at 6:30pm at the Village Hall Auditorium.

Why would it be a "Special" meeting since it was noticed at least a week in advance. Is this to eliminate public comment? I can't keep up with the byzantine rules they have made to shut up the citizens/taxpayers/voters .

To the Village Manager and the Borad of Trustees of the Village of Riverside:

In light of the fact that the concept of proceeding to establish a TIF District in Riverside was so soundly rejected by an overwhelming number (80%) of Riverside voters, I call upon the Village Manager and the Board of Trustees to immediately put forth the necessary notification to cancel this ill-conceived initiative. I further ask that you immediately refrain from spending one more cent on this foolish enterprise. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Donald Spatny

DUMP THIS THING NOW! Don't waste another dime or another minute on it.
