This weekend Tom Sisulak of the United Methodist Church organized a very nice event - the planting of 1000 tree seeds all around the riverbank in the First Division. Because of the sprinkles some of it was delayed, so if you see people with strange metal devices poking holes in the ground you will know what they are doing. Mike Collins, the village forester, who was instrumental in making this happen, says one in six might be a good estimate for the number that make it to a full grown tree, so this might result, down the road, in a very significant contribution to restoring that already too thin tree buffer between First Avenue and Ogden Avenue and the Village. We can sure use it.

167 more trees down the road, between the roads. Great idea. All who see the value of trees in Riverside thank Mr Sisulak for his generous creative idea and efforts, and the efforts of all who particapated in this.
THANKS for taking care of Riverside's back. Yesterday, my 11 year old, thinking about her future, said that she wants to settle in Riverside when she grows up. The kind of thinking and doing that Mr Sisulak is engaged in is for Riverside's future, and to keep Riverside as a special quiet arboreal oasis in a crazy car ridden citified world that has lost its way. We need to have this place called Riverside for others, residents, planners, designers, humans, to see a qood way to lay out a community.

I understand a problem with seedlings is that they are easily mowed down during grass mowing. How is this avoided?

Catherine, these were planted in the areas that are wooded, and not mowed. Out in the mowed areas only larger trees are planted.
