I heard from Holly that at the 'Meeting of the Whole' on Monday, the trustees will be voting whether or not to move forward with the TIF process. This info was from the December 3rd Suburban Life. Does anyone have a link to that article online to confirm?

Here's a link to the agenda for the meeting on the village site: http://tinyurl.com/ykn7qb (I so dislike the long URLs on anything posted on the village site.)

    Here's the agenda item:

VI. An Ordinance proposing approval of a Redevelopment Plan and Project for and the designation of the Redevelopment Project Area and the adoption of tax increment allocation financing therefore, convening a joint review board and calling a public hearing in connection therewith.

  2. Here is the link to the Suburban Life article. The comment on the next step in the TIF planning process is in the very last paragraph.

The trustees voted to put the TIF idea on hold!
    YEAH!
Lets work together to come up with a concise plan, and viable alternatives for funding!

Bravo, well done by all of you. Provided democracy is present, vigilance still counts for something.

they did not start the 45+14 day meter yet. I guess it
will be 1/08 when they do it.

I spoke with mckenna afterwards and he said 'oh, it
looks like they are not going to do it'.

I guess we all can go home and enjoy our
homes. we can enjoy our holidays - AT HOME!

    I'm so happy!

Mike, I am happy for you.

Regarding the date, check out this "Board Agenda History 12-04-06" on the village website:

ACTION PROPOSED: Considering the amount of concern related to the establishment of the TIF, in particular the need to have more information about the TOD plan and the TIF process disseminated in the Community, staff recommends we delay the adoption of the proposed ordinance this evening for at least three months. During that time, we will engage in an education effort, hold more workshops on the TOD plan (the process and results), and attempt to develop a vision for the community. If the board chooses to take this direction, this item can be removed from the active agenda and we can revisit this matter on the March 5 Board meeting.

Chris, thanks for clarifying the status. So are you saying that the board did in fact vote 'aye' on the action proposed above? I was hanging out of room 4 and it was unclear to me. I got they were kinda mad for doing all these studies and nothing is getting done since the riverside electorate is so ignorant. I can speak volumes on THAT.

I also want to be clear that MY expression of happiness in the entry above was NOT genuine. I was being facetious.

*The adminstration has been thinking of doing some form of property acquisition since 2000 (a FOIA has revealed a conversation that our VM had with lyons on doing eminent domain at that time). they are capitulating now?

*The administration has spent lots of money (what, over a hundred thousand dollars on all the studies?) to do some form of the plan they just DEFERRED.

*It looks like my home and family life will still be turning over the spit. On March 05 we'll have another vote?

*that is still before the april elections, where there could be some better, more substantial, relief

I am not greedy. I just want off the spit and to get my life back to me! I want to prepare for my 10 year old daughter's birthday party, for christmas; I still want to do Thanksgiving! Oh, I missed it?!

We pay our taxes and keep our house up. Why is this happening to us?

Is my house still on some list to be demolished? Has the village rolled back an invalid study that was almost fully funded by Metra that says we should remove an 1882 victorian and upset families so that some person from north riverside can drive to riverside, park where my master bedroom was, and buy a scone so that our EAV will go up?

Should I buy those windows? ...yeah, I thought so.

I guess we'll just keep freezing. Still on the spit, without a fire, freezing!

thank you very much, board, for a nice christmas present!

I better not go on. I might get emotional and say something I'll regret later.

Mike, I wasn't really saying anything. I just found that on the village website last night. Maybe someone with an eye toward legalese can interpret, but it appears to me that the staff delayed the adoption of the ordinance for at least three months.

Hard to tell facetiousness online without one of these ;) :D

thanks, chris. And sorry for using facetiousness online, especially without one of those thingees....:)

We all react to having our homes taken away differently. My elderly neighbor, who is also on the demo list, is having asthmatic type of stress attacks. She has a heart condition. I get sarcastic, cuss, blaspheme, spend too much time emailing and reciting my problems, and other stuff.

Dear Reader, sit back, and think how YOU would react?

I love it( :) ) : yesterday they talked about the discourse not being civil. They unilaterally and summarily circle around 335 properties that are not in fact blighted, or tax delinquent, but whose only fault is that they are located in (and actually near), the central business district, thus stigmatizing them and reducing their value, and they have the gall to charge the opposition, the recipients of this action, with a lack of civility.

Uncivil is civil. Demolition is acquisition and redevelopment.

    Riverside is Lawndale.
