VOTE on April 17. Vote NO on the referenda questions.
I wondered if it might be the case that the Trustees were attempting to reduce the number of voters to come out when they said they were going to proceed with the TIF regardless of the referendum results.
After all, why vote on it if it will not make any difference, they might be trying to say.
YOUR VOTE STILL MATTERS despite the non binding nature of the referendum.
You are legally and officially expressing your will, your feelings on the TIF.
It is the one legal and official way to express yourself in our town about how the town will look during your lifetimes. Minimally, your vote tells them that you do not like unilateral pharoahic assertion of power in this case.
.
Over 600 signatures were acquired in the freezing Riverside winter to get this question on the ballot when only 300 some were needed. The overwhelming sentiment that was said during this process was a desire to BE ABLE to express their will on this matter.
Far from feeling it was an abuse of the vehicle, everyone felt strongly to be able to vote on it, even if in a non binding way.
It is, therefore, an abuse of power for the Trustees to suggest that the will of the people would not be seriously considered.
