    An EDC wake up call.

"Local First Chicago is a network of locally owned, independent businesses and community organizations joined together to keep money and character in our neighborhoods and build a thriving local living economy."

Ideally, that would be "RATHER THAN" or "IN STEAD OF" TIF.

Kim, this is a most interesting site. We should make the Chamber of Commerce aware of it also.

BALLE: Business Alliance for Local Living Economies

Learn More About Local Living Economies

See the “Resources— section at the BALLE website for a thorough list of resources on building Local Living Economies:

Be sure to check out the famous “Andersonville Study— at www.andersonvillestudy.com. This Chicago-based piece demonstrates how locally owned businesses keep more money in the local economy than chain businesses.

The topic of Local Living Economies is attracting a lot of interest. Numerous books and articles have been published. A number of new books were featured at the 2006 BALLE Conference. Purchase these books at your local bookstore! To find the independent bookstore near you, go to: www.booksense.com

    dear all,

thank goodness the tif is off the table. i salute the board for admitting a terrible mistake.

but we still need a comprehensive plan.

its process must be honest, genuinely inclusive and rigorous.

and the resulting document must be CLEAR about where we are headed.

    comngrats to all,

    chris
