"Despite agreeing to add the question regarding a property tax increase to fund infrastructure projects, including parking, riverfront stabilization, roads, streets, sewer and water, landscape and traffic signal improvements, no trustee argued forcefully or enthusiastically for its inclusion. ...

Smith said he was for the question's inclusion because it recognized that the central business district was "property of the community as a whole rather than just the land holders." "

Gee, I'm glad my property did not find itself within the CBD; I would be so disappointed to learn that it was not actually mine. Though if it were in the CBD, perhaps everyone in town would chip in to help pay my mortgage. I wonder if this is a statement likely to prove attractive to developers. Maybe it was just directed toward Mr Kafka.

The generous public lands of the village, the main reason for our NHL designation, are what really constitute the property of the community. They do not belong in a TIF, and should be removed.

I would say, that after hearing some of the ideas thrown about for the Swan Pond at the last workshop they are going to need all the protection they can get. I'm all for not including any public lands in this discussion. If the dam is going to be notched, then we should wait at least one full year to see what effect that has on the river and the flooding. I don't think anyone really knows or understands all the forces at work there. Then later, if and when we know what we want to do, that can be addressed with a bond issue for JUST that. We already have the paperwork, don't we? Might as well make some use of it.
